White cast not for the weak
Five stars because it does the job. If I even look at my skin the wrong way, it will break out, and this has successfully given me sun protection, while mitigating any breakouts. The white cast is not for the weak. It will have you walking around looking like a ghastly Victorian child.

Only mineral sunscreen to not dry me out!
First mineral sunscreen that doesnt dry me out! Skin feels hydrated all day and doesnt feel like it compromises my other products. Other mineral sunscreens seem to always absorb all the moisture in my skin, despite using a ton of hydrating products underneath. This is fantastic for my rosacea prone skin. Only downside is the slight smell for the first hour or so after applying. Kinda smells like gasoline, but that's from the zinc. It does go away at least. This does also leave a white cast, which I am okay with since I am a red head with skin the color of paper and it kinda just looks like a bb cream on me. But I could see that being an issue for anyone who is blessed with the ability to tan/deeper skintones.

Mineral residue is a drawback
I generally love and trust CeraVe products but this leaves a pronounced white residue on my skin and looks like I have zombie makeup on. I realize it is a mineral sunscreen and having been a lifeguard last century and on a swimming team, I am familiar with zinc blocking products and a white nose, but I didn't realize this was not only an effective sunscreen but also suitable makeup for Kabuki theater tryouts, Geisha impersonations, packed in your backpack when you feel like running away and joining a roaming cadre of clowns or getting work as an extra for the next Night of the Living Dead series. If I were living in my parental unit's basement writing code remotely, perhaps I would have achieved the required pallor in my complexion to match this wonderful product, but as a robust outdoorswoman naturalist I will continue using it for the effectiveness and hope I don't run into any friends on the trail who will spread rumors about how they may need to search for a wooden stake before they see me again.

This is an embarrassing product...
I like the rest of Cerave's line up, I use a ton of their other products. Their Skin Renewing Night Cream is probably one of the best moisturizers on the market at this moment and can go toe to toe with some of the big expensive brands you'd find at Sephora. I use their Diabetics Dry Skin Cream all the time and it's positively divine, so much so that I haven't bothered to test out other brands. It's just that good. This? This thing? I genuinely can't believe this is amongst their other products. I read a couple of reviews saying it leaves a white cast and I, looking for a way to make my fair medium skin tone lean more towards the fair end thought "hey, maybe it will lend me just enough to lighten me up a hair." No. I only used a tiny dab, not even the full amount you're SUPPOSED to use on your face and not only did it leave me with a white cast but with a blue-ish grey-ish cast that genuinely made me look like I had died about 6 hours ago. UNBELIEVABLY bad cast. And I'm a white person! If that leaves a cast that intense on me, I can't even imagine what kind of cast it would leave on someone darker than me! I get it, this is probably purely a physical sunscreen, its probably all zinc or mineral or something like that in there and the point is that is creates a literal physical barrier so that the uv light can't penetrate through or it bounces off. You can't have a physical barrier without it existing, that's literally impossible. HOWEVER. The fact that it's THAT bad of a blue grey cast??? What are we doing here?????

Awesome sunscreen
I’ve been using the CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 for more than 2 years, and I’m really impressed. I have sensitive, combination skin and struggle to find sunscreens that don’t break me out or cause irritation. Its lightweight and creamy, and although it does leave a slight white cast at first, it blends in well after a few minutes especially if I apply it over moisturizer. I appreciate that it's fragrance-free and packed with ceramides and niacinamide, which help keep my skin feeling calm and hydrated. It wears nicely under makeup and doesn’t make me greasy throughout the day. I also love that it’s a 100% mineral sunscreen, which feels gentler on my skin compared to chemical options.

It a no from me. Its works but the cons are just to much for me to get past.
I really wanted to like this and had high hopes for it since I love my CeraVe lotions The good - it does provide adequate sun protection. I burn easily and need to reapply sunscreen approx every 30 mins (no matter the spf or brand recommendation) and in the time i was out in the sun i didnt get burned i did however feel my skin getting hotter then usual which was uncomfortable. The things I dont like - this sunscreen never really dried and/or soaked in. It just sat as a greasy feeling layer on my skin and face. Weirdly also leaves a slight white cast (which does fade so i guess that helps you know where you put it i guess for even application) Because it just sat as a layer on me it made me very uncomfortable which in turn makes me itchy (not an allergic reaction itch just an i dont like this feeling itch) On my face it just made me look greasy, not a youthful glowy dewy look, nope like full on greasy like a pizza just out the oven grease. Im not keen on that, i dont mind a little shine but my face was practically reflecting the sun (technically thats a plus as that means my face wasnt getting bombarded with uv light) The worst for me was it transferred to everything I touched, my black leather like car seats had white residue all over them after sitting in the car and it was really hard to get off of them. Just beaware when buying this it may not work out for you.

Great mineral sunscreen
Some reviews bemoan the fact that it turns your skin white. And yes, I cannot disagree with them on that. However... It's a *mineral* based sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens work by providing a *physical* barrier. Meaning, there essentially *must* be a thick enough physical coating on your skin to prevent burn/UV. Chemical based works differently, and that's why you don't get a thick coating with those. So it's unfair to compare the two. Furthermore, this is an SPF 50, so it's going to be thicker -- *must* be thicker -- than lower SPF. I've used lower SPF minerals before and those are not as thick. This is a great sunscreen for me and it works fine for me because I'm a pretty pale kid who easily burns. So the white coating isn't as obvious on my skin. That's not true for everyone, however, so do what works best for you. For those blessed with darker skin, this white mineral coating probably does look kinda bad, so I don't blame y'all for hating that. Unfortunately, I don't see another way around that when you get a high SPF mineral sunscreen. Ultimately, get whatever sunscreen works best for you. But understand that this product does exactly what it's supposed to do and it really can't be better than it is. So, full marks from me. Again, I burn easily, so I reapply frequently. As long as I do that, I have never gotten burned while using this sunscreen. It's great and works really well.

Works amazing for sensitive skin
Thick, creamy, lays on thick, but keeps your skin moisturized and it's the only sunscreen to work for me with my sun allergy. The bottle is durable, doesn't leak, and it evens out as if you didn't even apply it. The Zinc in it is what dermatologists look for when applying sunscreen, so it's worth every penny.
