every egg perfect. here's some help making it work properly
I LOVE this product. I only use the hard boiled egg setting. No broken eggs in the boiling water, no having to remember how long you've been boiling them for. Just plug in the machine and focus on other things. This is important to me. I have too many details to keep track of as it is. The eggs peel super easy so they look pretty on your salads! And cleanup is a breeze. The device actually steams the eggs inside of their own shell--it causes the eggs to separate from the shell from the inside. Hence the easy peeling. At first I was having trouble with this device, but then I figured it out. First of all, I didn't realize I was going to have to poke holes in my eggs-- so when I received the device, and it said I had to do that --I had a mental resistance to that. I don't like touching slimy things so I was really nervous while I was learning to put the round part of the egg on the spike and push down to poke the hole. It's like popping a baloon on purpose--kind of gives a nervous charge. Let me tell you, I have not shattered a single egg doing this. It's fine. It works great. The other thing is the measuring cup. Again, I only do the hard boiled setting. The instructions say to cook 7 eggs, fill to the 7 line. But I thought to myself, that can't be right. THe measuring cup numbers from 1 at the top of the cup and counts to 7 going lower on the cup. the 7 mark would be less water than the 1 mark. I just assumed I would need MORE water to cook MORE eggs. So I assumed that what the instructions actually MEANT to say, was to fill to the 1 line, which is the fuller cup. WRONG! This caused eggs to explode and messy cleanup. If you actually follow the directions and fill the water up to 7 for 7 eggs, it works perfectly. No explosions. After the timer goes off I unplug it and leave it to cool. I felt like when I "tested" an egg it was a little soft in the middle (by hard boiled egg standards). So I feel like the extra time cooling with the lid on helps make sure they do get totally cooked all the way through. Finally, to clean up, if there is a little something on the heating plate, I just put some water in that and let it set a while and soak the egg holding tray and lid in dishwater with my other dishes, then wipe them all clean. Voila, no scrubbing. Seriously, you don't know how much work and stress it is to boil eggs on a stove until you try this thing. It will change your egg boiling life forever!

Makes perfect eggs. Electronic Buzzer lets you know when they are ready.
Great machine. I purchased it as a replacement for my EggGenie, which is the exact same machine, only white. The one drawback with the Better Chef unit is that the alarm that notifies you that your eggs are done is not nearly as loud as the EggGenie; it's much softer. I could hear my EggGenie from upstairs, which I really liked. These units are extremely durable. I have had my EggGenie for years. The only reason I needed to get a new one is because the clear cover became brittle with age and cracked. But the unit itself still works.

Makes best hard boiled eggs
I am delighted with this egg maker. I tried the hard boiled egg feature and it worked perfectly. It took no time to make and the eggs came out perfect. No need to fuss with making hard boiled eggs on the stove when you can use this wonderful egg maker. I wish I had known about this sooner. Wonderful for parties or egg salad. I cannot say enough about how easy it was to do this and cleaning the egg maker was a cinch. The price was also fantastic.

Seems to work but isn't anything special
This is the second brand of egg cooker I have owned. I would rate this as average. The instructions are useless and it isn't clear what the design of the egg holder is supposed to address. One might assume that this egg shaped protrusion sticking out one side could be used as a handle to pick up the hot eggs. However the plastic holder is so flimsy, this really isn't practical. There claims to be a beeper to warn you when the eggs are cooked. There isn't. What is present is some sort of bizarre buzzer that keeps making a rather distorted buzzing noise until you yank out the electric cord. Finally the "stainless steel" pan that holds the water immediately stains and looks rather bad after just a few uses. This does not seem to affect the operation however. On the plus side, the unit boils eggs correctly and, if you happen to leave the house for some reason during the process, it seems to shut itself off. It isn't clear how long the strangled buzzer continues to sound however but it seems to eventually shut off. Overall the appliance seems to work OK.

The BEST egg cooker
I absolutely love this egg cooker! I purchased one from a local store (not amazon) because I was having a hard time hard boiling eggs on the stovetop. I thought maybe this would help, and it sure did! I will not hard boil another egg any other way! I love it so much, I bought one for my sister, my mom and my mother-in-law. They all love it. My sister's did stop working after about a year, but luckily I was able to find it on Amazon and she quickly replaced it. For $10-$15 it's totally worth replacing it if it should break. I've had mine for about 2 years and it still works perfectly. This cooker offers ways to cook eggs from soft boiled to hard boiled, but I've only ever done the hard boiled. The eggs are cooked perfect every time in about 12 minutes (hard-boiled) and peel perfectly! Sometimes the shell comes off practically in one piece! I will never be without this cooker, so I hope they never stop making it!

Great boiled eggs
This is a great little appliance. It takes such a short amount of time -- no more waiting for water to boil. The eggs come out perfectly cooked and, after cooling, so easy to shell. I would certainly buy it again and would recommend it.

The unit is as shown, boils eggs accurately and the egg hole puncher works without cracking the eggs. The top lid mates with the bottom plate poorly but does not affect operation. The measurement cup for the water is and works well for large size eggs right out of the refridgerator. It is a low end unit, you get what you pay for!
