Applied Naval Architecture

This is a good introduction to the practical aspects of ships with a good blend of math and intuitive description. I was looking for something more advanced than Gerr's Propeller Handbook (for prop/engine speed tradeoffs), but it was not present in this book. I received a BS in Electrical Engineering, I decided to pursue a MS in Marine Engineering. We used this book for introductory Hydrodynamics/Hydrostatics and I must say I thought this book was a great. So much so that I recommend this book to any of my co-workers that show the slightest bit of interest in Naval Architecture.Applied Naval Architecture is a fantastic read for anyone interested in learning introductory concepts of Naval Architecture. It's a reference that I still consult on a frequent basis - it provides a clear and straight forward approach to teaching hydrostatic and hydrodynamic concepts. Besides all the great topics covered, the price is really nice.

As decent. Used for class without a problem

A genuinely interesting read for anyone looking for a little more than what a sailor might need to know without getting everything a ship designer needs to know.

The book is meant to be a text book for non Naval Architecture majors. It is well suited for Naval Officers, ship operators, or even enthusiastic recreational boaters seeking a more in depth understanding of the science behind ship or boat design. The book presents both highly analytic principles along with more simple and easy to understand explanations and examples. Better than most books costing two to three times as much.

Great book on boat building.

This book was purchased in lieu of Principles of Naval Architecture Volume I, because that book was under revision at the time of purchase. I have found the book to be a very concise substitute for the PNA, and am very pleased with it. It has adequate descriptions of concepts along with the "math" needed without going into the extreme detail that PNA does. Overall a great reference.

This book is a good book, you need to have a good background in higher math skills. My accounting level math was not good enough for most of the problem solving. Maybe I needed 'Naval Architecture for Idiots.' If your math skills are not advanced, this book will not help much.

The book is written for practical sea-faring people who want the knowledge to progress to a higher level in the design of ships.

The book is nice, clean clear printing and drawings.There is both Imperial and SI calculations,questions in the book.Would prefer more SI questions. .
