Measuring the pocket on the 'outside' seems to be about 6x12 inches (15.24cm x 30.48cm). I believe it would hold a wallet (or something similar) that's 3 or 4 inches thick (7.62 or10.16 cm). FYI - the outside of this pocket is a double layer of fabrics with foam in between because that's what will be against your back for comfort.
