The Lip Won’t Save You, BUT Great Waffles!
I already had a waffle maker that worked very well, but only made 2 small square ones at a time, which ultimately was a time-intensive endeavor when making them for more than myself. I opted to upgrade to this one to speed up the job. The outer lip that prevented overflow was certainly no insignificant factor that led me to selecting this one. It does, in fact, make excellent waffles and cleans up easily, too, BUT don’t even bother pretending that the outer overflow lip is going to save you from having batter dripping down the sides. Resign yourself to the reality, place it on a surface that’s easy to wipe down, and have a damp sponge or paper towels handy to clean off the exterior while you’re at it. Easy enough! The one small downside is the EXTREMELY short electrical cord on the appliance. While I understand the “safety” rationale, it dramatically complicates where you can use it, and truthfully, necessitates using a power strip if you have the routine gamut of kitchen appliances you use daily already competing for counter space. Not ideal, but reality rarely is. All in all, while not the revolutionary “mess-free” waffle maker of my dreams, it is a solid, consistently-performing one that makes tasty waffles and that’s what matters most to me!

Great little waffle iron
After reading various mixed waffle iron reviews, I ordered this Belgium Waffle Iron 4/3/23 and received it 4/4/23. I'm writing this review on 4/5/23. Couldn't wait to use it, as I've never had one before. This morning I made delicious plant-based waffles (I'm vegan) out of oatmeal from a recipe I found online. Just throw the oatmeal, plant-based milk and nut-butter, applesauce and other minor ingredients into a blender and blend. Couldn't have been easier. The recipe suggested throwing out the instructions for any waffle iron regarding using a light/beep, etc. for the waffle being done, so I decided to take that advice, which was to wait until there was no steam coming from the iron (to determine readiness) and to wait an extra 5 minutes after the light notes being ready before pouring in the batter. My waffles were perfect!!! Very crisp. After each one cooked, I placed it on the oven rack (no plate) to maintain crispness at 200 degrees. My only complaint is the measuring cup that comes with the iron is crap. The directions say something about ml readings on the cup, but the actual cup reading isn't metric. I just used a ladle I had and used 2 full scoops of the ladle to pour into the iron. It worked fine. I didn't take off for this. I didn't use any oil, as the iron is non-stick. Just make sure the iron is very hot before pouring the batter. Clean up was easy. Also, I like the way the iron can be stored on it's side for minimal storage. I know I have only used the iron once, but very surprised how the iron performed and how reasonably priced it was. If I have any issues with the iron in the future, I will update this review.

Here is how to use this unit correctly!
My review in short: Great and affordable waffle maker when used correctly! Size: This waffle maker is on the average size. The cooking plate is only about 6 inches in diameter. Disclaimer #1: Remember folks when pouring batter LESS IS MORE. Let me repeat, LESS IS MORE. Use the measuring cup that comes with the unit to pour the batter. For your first cook, pour 1/3 cup (MAXIMUM) of batter in the center of the plate, just so you can get an idea of how much the batter spreads when you close the lid. A 1/3 cup of batter will ALMOST fill the entire cooking plate once the waffle is cooked. It won't seem like a lot of batter when you pour it, but please, trust me when I say once you close the lid that batter WILL spread. I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that everyone who experienced batter overflowing everywhere, making a huge mess was due to pouring too much batter (even though it may not have seemed like a lot when pouring). Disclaimer #2 I've read a lot of reviews claiming that the spill/overflow lip doesn't work. It does work, you just have to understand what the overflow lip is and isn't. The overflow lip IS simply to catch a SMALL (and I do mean small) portion of batter overflow, NOT the entire Pacific Ocean. Settings: You are able to adjust the cooking settings with a turn of a knob. This nob determines how brown the waffle will be. Turn the knob to the desired brownness and plug in the waffle maker. Once the waffle maker has reached cooking temp the light will go from red to green. I typically set mine to somewhere in the middle and it takes about 2-3mins to heat up before it's ready for the batter to be poured in. Once you pour in the batter and close the lid the light will turn from green to red (this may take a few seconds). When the waffles are done, the light will go from red to green. Cook Time: This will obviously be determined by how brown you want your waffles, but the waffles nevertheless cook quite quickly. Just be advised that this waffle maker does NOT "beep" to notify you once your waffles are ready. I do hear a slight "click" sound of the light turning green notifying that the waffles are ready but that is it, so you'll need to pay attention. Cleaning: To clean this unit I simply wipe it down with moist cloth and then a dry cloth.

This waffle maker cooks waffles to perfection. And the waffles are so big. The anti-overflow works amazing. I don’t know what other people are talking about that said it didn’t. Maybe they have an older model. But mine works great. All it is, is an extended cooking surface so any batter that goes outside of the waffle grooves just gets cooked rather than making a mess. I liked it having a bit of an extra edge from the anti-overflow surface, it made it easier to get the waffle out. And if you’re worried about presentation you can easily cut or pull the edges off for a cleaner look. It’s fool proof. It tells you when to put the batter in and when the waffle is done. It has multiple level setting based on how browned you want your waffle. I cooked mine on level 3 (medium) for reference. It’s compact and light. It’s easy to clean, I just wiped it down with a cloth, nothing sticks to it. It was so easy to use my 5 year old was making waffles with my supervision.

I really like it. Non stick. Cooks them perfectly. Very easy to clean. There are a few things that could be improved. It doesn’t beep when the waffle is done. There is an indicator light that goes on when done but is hard to see if there is bright light in the room I need to cup my hand around it to see if it is on.

Great quality. The baking dish is deep and batter does not spill out as it did with different models. When you are done you can keep it upright, saving some counter top space. I like the little plastic measuring cup included, convenient and easy. Five different settings. (There was no recipe booklet included, it would be a nice touch.) Overall I am very happy.
