Only if the fingers were left too long. It doesn’t ‘slam’ a door in its tightest setting and is adjustable as to its ‘power.’

I want this to soft close the fire door to my garage. Will i have to remove the spring hinges or will they work together with this?

This is a very light duty door closer. It barely closed an interior hollow core door over carpet. You may want to consider something more heavy duty for a garage fire door.
