Best printer I've ever owned.
Updating my original review here, as I'm now going on >2.5 years with this printer... PROs: * Effortless wired & wireless network setup via direct ethernet connection (originally Bonjour under Mac OS X 10.8.3; still good under Mac OS 10.11.1). * Perfectly, effortlessly compatible with Apple's AirPrint for iOS (iPad, iPhone). * Solid like a rock -- would probably break windows in north Russian towns if dropped from orbit. * Lasers! * Scanning is crisp and clean (see related Con, below). • Scanning is FAST via Apple's native Image Capture utility!!! About 5 seconds to scan a full page in color at 300dpi -- whether wired over Ethernet or wireless over 802.11n. * Ability to angle control panel & display screen for best viewing. * Very compact, though this isn't a big factor for me. * Likely cheaper in the long run than yet another crappy inkjet. * Nice energy-saving features; wakes from sleep on any user-defined triggering event, as expected. * Fast -- I was waiting for pages 2 and 3 to print, then realized they'd already printed. CONs: * HP Scan results look *terrible* in the HP Scan window, though the actual TIF files generated from scans are excellent. I now simply use Apple's own Image Capture utility instead, and this is great. * No paper tray cover to prevent dust. (I borrowed a paper tray cover from a dead OfficeJet 6210 to compensate, and this works great.) * Toner cartridge rotational load/unload mechanism seems overly complex and prone to mechanical failure. If it doesn't, it may only be because I should't have to use it very often. My last HP-built laser printer lasted 16 years. My last three HP-built inkjet printers lasted 2-3 years each. The math was easy; I'm done with inkjets. The other big difference is that when you pay for a real printer, on-going support in the form of driver updates from HP seems to last a LOT longer. Bottom line, this isn't a disposable device. This is real hardware that should last a while. Coming up on three years now, I still haven't connected it via USB. No reason to -- it's an awesome network printer, so network it!

Great printer for the money.
I bought this HP printer on a Saturday and received it on a Wednesday. Like everything on Amazon I get my purchases very fast. I bought this color laser jet printer for deliability so hopefully it lasts a long time. I still have my old HP Laser jet printer from 5 years ago and finally need to replace the toner. Once I got the printer out of the box and removed all the tape from it, it was time to set up. Other reviews had some minor problems hooking this printer up to their computer. It took me longer to get it out of the box and remove the tape then to set it up. Set up was very easy, 1 power cord, 1 USB cord, my computer, and paper, and in five minutes I was up and printing. The quality of the prints is very clear. This computer will be used mostly by my kids for their school projects. A couple of weeks have gone by and after many prints I am amazed by the quality of the print. Having a wireless printer is way cool. I am very glad I made this purchase. 6 months later and my black toner says its low. I know it's only the demo cartridge so I am hoping the next cartridge lasts a little longer. This would be my only complaint. I found toner cartridges on Amazon for $43 but towards the bottom of the page found another company that sells them for half price. The reviews for Supplies Outlet were OK so I will see. I bought the black toner cartridge from Supplies Outlet and wish now that I bought the HP toner refill. The Supplies Outlet toner cartridge lasted for about a month and now the quality of the print is terrible. My color is still great. I will stick with HP carridges from here on out.

HP's Unacceptable Business Practices. DO NOT SUPPORT THEM
I started seeing dots vertically going down my pages after I replaced the toners with the ones I bought from amazon. so I opened the printer and cleaned all the toner cartridges and inside the area where they are placed into. That did nothing and these dots were not disappearing. I did all kinds of tests like cleaning page options, diagnostics, etc. I also went through the help section on the hp site for my printer and went through every suggested advice. So I decided I need to call HP myself. I did not know was going on. I just got off a very heated call with someone from HP Support. I pitied him as he was tied to the HP policy and kept referring to it. He told me these dots showed up because I am not using GENUINE toners. So I asked him "So HP intentionally programmed these printers to not print properly if consumers decided to purchase affordable toners that fit within their budgets? It is purposely programmed to somewhat malfunction if we don't choose to purchase extremely OVERPRICED genuine toners, correct?....excuse me can I get an answer??" He was quiet. I asked if I choose to finally get the genuine toners will these dots go away? He said there is 70% chance it will go away. I asked if it doesn't, can I at least send in my printer so HP can fix the problem? He told me HP cannot fix the problem and I must PURCHASE ANOTHER PRINTER. I paid $400 for this printer only a year ago and you're telling me I need to buy a new one?! He said that once I use an off brand toner, the hardware inside the printer may be damaged and cannot be fixed. So I asked him,"So you are telling me that HP cannot fix the printer they themselves programmed and created? There is no department that can take care of this issue? Nobody knows how to open it up and fix or replace any problems of their OWN products???" He again went silent. I told him I am willing to responsibly pay for whatever damages I have caused because I was not aware of such ridiculous policies. He said I do not have an option of paying for any of these services and that the only solution is to buy a whole new printer. This is a scam. This type of business practice is disgusting and totally unacceptable. I asked how much is each toner, he told me they are 70-80$ per toner, so I will probably pay almost $300 for replacing all four of them. So I am pretty much buying ANOTHER PRINTER! So as a HP customer I have two choices, pay nearly the same amount as a printer to replace the toners or to just forget it all and buy a another printer. This is seriously a scam. Making profit off of your products is fine, but trying to constantly drain your costumers pockets like this on the same product and not giving them other affordable options is disgusting. Thank you HP, you have assured me that I put $400 to waste. you have stolen my money and still want more. I am not supporting these types of company. I've had great experiences with HP in the past, but it has sure turned into a disgusting money hungry corporation. I was not aware of certain things and they still will not fix or at least TRY to accommodate to customers needs. They just want you to make you forget about your purchase and just get another one. I can't believe HP expects customers to say "Oh oops! Okay, I just bought this $400 printer. Sure HP, I'll buy another one if that fixes the problem! whoopty doo!" This is a huge joke and it is disgusting. I am ever supporting HP ever again.

A decent printer with some caveats
First off let me say, I've own probably about a dozen printers over the years, first Epson, then Canon, then back and forth between HP and Brother. All work for a time and then die. MOst of them that I've had were Inkjet and the trouble with Inkjet printers is that if you don't use it quite often the ink hardens in the jets and ruins the printer; something they neglect to tell you in ANY review I've ever seen online. I have had this happen to most of my printers regardless of any comments to the contrary, i know it to be so. I bought this printer for three reasons: One; it was Laserjet and seemed like it would solve the nozzle clogging issue. Two; because I wanted to be able to have it connected to my network instead of physically connected to my computer which I would then have to leave on in order for the rest of the house to be able to print. Three; also liked the idea of Wifi printing negating the need for a USB cable. (although it technically still needs one and is instead connected to my network router.) Having said that, this printer when it DOES work, is great. I say 'when it does' because it quite frequently goes offline despite constantly making loud noises to reset itself to GO online. My wife, and two daughters frequently forgo trying to print on the network, just turn my computer on and print from there but even my printer does not find the printer often enough that it's REALLY irritating. I read somewhere online that for it to not do this you have to give it a static IP address which is asinine since if it NEEDS that to BE on the NETWORK then it should do it FOR you otherwise it's pointless. I simply don't believe that HP which is known for it's bloatware in the first place can not find a way to walk you through a static IP address setup. The final tidbit of info I'll share here is thus: As a professional artist and animator, I also bought this printer to print detailed presentations to pitch to networks and until recently I have not had trouble with this. Now it has decided to tell me that a 15mb file is too large to print and the printer now runs out of memory. the problem with that is that this printer does not HAVe replaceable or upgradable memory. I do not think i will purchase another HP product as I'm kinda tired of them. So, to sum it all up, it prints GREAT documents when it works. Now I have no doubt that there will be know-it-all commenters that state that I don't know what I'm doing because the web seems to be full of them and perhaps that's true but you have to ask yourself; Do you want to be printing your document error free each time or do you want to be troubleshooting an issue at 9pm with a meeting the next morning? Words to think on before buying this printer.

Works well but installation a little inconvenient
We're happy with the printer and have used the printing, copying, and scanning functions. It does have a problem printing two-sided in that the back pages are not printed in the right order. This was a problem with a previous HP Laser Printer too, and it would be nice if they could get this right. Other than that, the printer works as advertised. Installation went smoothly but the printer had to be physically attached to each computer that would use it to install the drivers. A cable was supplied for this, but it was only six feet long, and I had to carry the printer around the house to each computer. The printer isn't that light, and this could be a problem for some people.

Terrific Printer
I did a lot of homework on many printers before I bought this. I was pleasantly surprised by the complete user experience. This machine is really terrific. It was easy to use, and easy to set up. (Note: I had a glitch setting up eprint, but the web page said somewhere that if you update the firmware first, then it would work, which it did. The documentation is on the sparse side, but it still went pretty smooth.) It prints via wifi, over the air, and it scans over the air too, which is really cool. The eprint (to print by sending the printer an email) had some delays some times. BTW, Amazon does sell inexpensive toner refills (which I did not try yet myself, but t hey have good reviews.) So this should keep operating costs down. It is just an absolute pleasure to use, and it gets the job done, easy and quick. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase, and I am buying this for my office colleagues as well.

Long time fan... now ruined for HP LaserJet line
This is a terrible printer. I have had a HP 1300 laser printer for many years and absolutely loved it. We "had" to get a color printer + scanner, so I decided to stay with HP and stay with laser, expecting it to be as great as the B&W 1300. No such luck. Pros: - High quality prints - Great color reproduction - Easy wi-fi set up - Great driver support on Linux, Mac, and Windows Cons: - Constantly crashes, requiring a complete power-cycle including 30 seconds unplugged - Super slow prints (even B&W) - Tiny, expensive toner carts (my old printer could go a year+ with lots of printing, not this one) - Big an bulky for a home/small office printer. Big footprint - Cheaply made and flimsy feeling (the display is adjustable and very easy to break) - Jams very easily - Did I mention that it crashes all the time? Sometimes it just doesn't print, no indication, just stops working - Once it goes idle you have to hit the "OK" button to wake it up. So much for wireless printing, gotta be in the same room - Noisy. While I'm writing this it is "Calibrating". It does this from time to time. Don't go to sleep after using this or you'll think an intruder has entered your house I'm seriously considering buying a new printer and donating this to someone I can't stand.

A Great Printer/Scanner
I am a small business owner and needed a quality printer/scanner that I could network wirelessly. The HP Laserjet CE866A Wireless Color Printer with Scanner and Copier is exactly what I was looking for. I bought this printer/scanner about 6 weeks ago and have been using it since. It was easy to setup (including the WiFi connectivity) and produces high quality, color documents, scans and copies. The paper tray holds a large quanity of paper. When printing, a small dialogue box appears on your computer showing how much ink is available. Accessing the printer preferences and diagnostics is easy and intuitive. Over the years, I have owned multi-function printers other than HP and ALWAYS have been disappointed. My 8 year-old HP printer simply died of old age and excessive use. This new printer is ideal.
