Review: Good book - The Story: Convicted killer Jason Jessup is being let out of prison after twenty-four years for a murder he says he did not commit. His defense team is pointing to DNA evidence from the crime scene that is not his, but things are not that cut-and-dried. Mickey Haller is talked into being the prosecutor, and he has Harry Bosch as his investigator. My thoughts: I rounded up to five stars from 4.5, because I thought it ended a little too abruptly, but it was a good read. Good story. Review: A good read but not my favorite - First Sentence: The last time I'd eaten at the Water Grill I sat across the table from a client who had coldly and calculatedly murdered his wife and her lover, shooting both of them in the face. Jason Jessup has spent the last 24 years in prison, convicted for kidnapping and murdering a 12-year-old girl. New DNA evidence has won him a new trial, but the LA DA's office can not use one of their own to prosecute the case. Instead, they hire defense attorney Mickey Haller to switch sides. Mickey agrees to prosecute the case as long as he runs the case with his ex-wife Maggie McPherson as 2nd chair and LAPD Det. Harry Bosch as investigator. You can never go wrong with a book written by Connelly, and this is one of his better books. From the very beginning, you are involved and want to keep reading to the last page. It really is a legal thriller. The story is much more plot-driven, than character-driven. Certainly there are details of each character's personal life--it wouldn't be realistic without them--but the story focuses on the case. While that did mean there was less character development than I'd have liked, it made sense with the trajectory of the story. To do otherwise, may have bogged things down. The drama is split between the investigation and the courtroom. And drama there is. Connelly creates an excellent sense of tension without ever going over the top. When there is threat, it feels real. When there is emotion; that too is realistic. The courtroom scenes were ones I found fascinating. From pre-trial, to dealing with the political and media pressures, jury selection, and legal maneuvers, having just served on a criminal-trial jury, it all seemed very real to me. The ending was not as satisfying as I might have wished, but it was more realistic than a more classic ending. One element I did find disconcerting was the alternating voices. I do wish it had all been done in third person, but understood why it was not. However, it was a bit confusing at times. I've always said there is nothing wrong with a "Good" book. This was more than "Good" but still falls in that range. It is a four-hour, straight-through, airplane read, and that is not meant to be a disparaging term. It does mean it's a book in which one becomes so engrossed, you can tune out everything else around you, go for the ride, and finally breathe at the end, looking around you to remember where you really are. In other words; I really enjoyed reading it! THE REVERSAL (Legal Mys/Pol Proc-Mickey Haller/Harry Bosch-So. Cal-Cont) - G+ Connelly, Michael - 3rd in Haller series, 16th in Bosch series Little, Brown and Company, ©2010, US Hardcover - ISBN: 9780316069489

A Connelly Family Get Together, Not To Be Missed!
After having finally gone through the entire Connelly fiction catalog, I approached this book with a bit of hesitation. First, it has recieved somewhat mixed reviews here on Amazon and, secondly, it was the last book until April of 2011 for me to read of Connelly's. If you are having any of those issues (or any other for that matter) put them to rest. This is a very good book and, for those that have read a number of Connelly's others, a true reunion of sorts. The title says it all in this book. Mickey Haller, step brother to the one and only Harry Bosch gets his nightmare assignment by temporarily stepping over to the prosecution's side of the court room to prosecute a sadistic child killer recently released due to new DNA results in his conviction. This is the toughest issue you need to buy into in order to enjoy this book. I am no lawyer and I do find this idea far fetched. I cannot imagine that too many DA's offices around the country would temporarily assign someone from outside of their office to handle a prosecution. Further, to assign a successful career defense lawyer to the job seems downright silly. However, Connelly does a good job of selling the idea. The DA's office has been tainted by it's first trial against this defendant. In the public's eye, none of them can be trusted. The concept of hiring a temporary independent lawyer that is beyond reproach actually makes sense. I doubt that it is possible in reality but it stands up to the logic test. Further, this is a book after all, and why not take some liberties for the sake of entertainment? Beyond The Reversal itself, this book is really a blast. Harry Bosch, back working with his step brother to reinvestigate the killer. Rachel Walling (FBI, former Bosch love interest) comes in for a much needed new profile of the killer. Even "Sticks", Mickey's point man in the media is here. Connelly does a borderline brilliant job of mixing Mickey's and Harry's back stories. While we dont have the same character depth with Mickey that we do with Harry, Connelly does a very nice job of further telling his defense attorney's story. The bottom line is this; if you are a Connelly / Bosch fan, you have to read this book. I highly recommend reading all (at least some) of the books that were written prior to this. At the very least read the following; The Lincoln Lawyer, The Brass Verdict, The Poet, A Darkness More Than Night, The Narrows and The Brass Verdict. While I would highly recommend them all, this smaller list should give you the background you need to thoroughly enjoy this great book.

Michael Connelly is a master of the thriller; he knows how to create suspense and, with twists and turns right up to the end, you can't put this book down, especially since the main character is no longer a defense lawyer but a prosecutor.

Si legge tutto di un fiato! Avvincente e scorrevole. Volendo trovargli un difetto...la fine e' un po tirata per i capelli ...come se volesse essere originale a tutti i costi!

He leído muchísimas novelas de Michael Connelly y no estoy exagerando.
