Excellent primer on weight training
I am an age group triathlete at the end of his 3rd season and a novice to weight training. I started with a PT. This book is easy to understand and covers it all! Warmly recommended.

Good information but disorganized
There is a lot of good information for a beginner and the more experienced. However, it doesn't seem well organized. The information is all there but you have to refer to later (or earlier) chapters to figure it all out. I have the Kindle version. It may be easier with a hard copy that you can flip and mark through pages. I know, you can do that with the Kindle but it just isn't as elegant.

Great book, no biase!
Great book, great basics. This is a great book to get clarification on weight training lingo, techniques etc. I have been doing weight training for many years and learned some things. I know this book is not biased by someone trying to sell me a supplement and piece of equipment. I have never read any of the "Dummies" books but I will look into other topics going forward.

Maybe get the Kindle version instead?
The content is fine (hence three stars) - however, my issue is with the poor quality of the current printings of the paperback version. The paper feels like something that would even be rejected for use in a phone book (what's left of them these days) - causing text to be very hard to read, print from the back page bleeding through, and blurry lo-res photos.Given this is a 2014 book, judging from older reviews, it seems likely to me that they've cut corners in the print runs over the subsequent years. If interested in the content, you might as well get the Kindle version instead...

good for planning your own training
This book is just right for a weight dabbler that needs to get serious; The book, clearly, explains what you need to know to plan your own weight routines for effective gains and in a safe manner. Be sure and read the intro which tells you the book layout in case you think you won't read cover to cover.

Get in shape, get the book.
The book contains everything hat you need to inform you and assist you in setting up your own program. I made up my paper work out program to keep a record of my progress. This is great. I highly recommend this product.

Very Poor Quality Photos
Darn, this was a waste of money for what I was looking for. I wanted a reference type book so I could check my form on workouts, follow along by the picutures and pick up some new routines. But the pictures are fuzzy black and white and look they were taken in the 70's. You cannot see enough detail. So unfortunately, this book is not useful at all to me. At the same time, I also had ordered 2 of the books published by Women's Health and they are both so much better. Crisp color pix so you can follow along.
