IT WORKS BETTER THAN GREAT!
I was little reluctant after reading some of the dissatisfied reviews, but I can now unequivocally say The Book Seat is the real deal that works. I use it mostly for reading heavy hardcover books while in bed and it has literally tripled my reading time. Hands free except to turn the pages, comfortable, stable on my lap (it holds a 600 page hardcover, no problem). The clear plexiglass spread holder works really well and is easy to use. I do rest it up against a small head pillow while in bed to help stabilize it. This is due to the angle I like to keep it at while reading in bed for comfortable full spread viewing and lighting. If I sat a little more upright it would be fine by itself — but I don't want to — it's why I'm reading in bed and not in a chair. Sitting in a chair however, while reading with it on my lap, it stands up fine and remains stabilized all by itself with a hardcover novel in its grasp. What's really great about The Book Seat is that it leaves my hands totally free to look up new words I run across or forgotten definitions on my iPhone without having to fuss at all with the book. So nice. Buy The Book Seat with confidence and experience a new level of enjoyment by reading those big beautiful novels the way they're supposed to be read … by turning the pages.

perfect for lap reading
Holding a "real" book can get tiresome - especially a hardcover. This little bookrest is just perfect. It's like a little beanbag that rests on my lap. There is a little adjustable clear plastic piece that flips up and that's what holds the book (and pages) in place. It seems to be well-made, so hopefully it will last awhile. Very happy.

Pricey, but worth it! So far..
As a new mom I constantly have a baby in my arms. I needed something to prop my book up AND hold the pages open so I can tend to my little one, cook dinner, fold laundry etc. While being mostly hands free. I was so surprised there wasn't a lot of products like this out there! So I kind of took a chance on this product hoping it was going to meet my needs. I think the quality feels good. It's very veryyy light, but it's holding my 300+ page paperback book open just fine, and has stayed propped up on the arm of my couch without tipping. I could see it getting knocked over depending on your book size and stuff so I do wish it was a bit heavier. Otherwise I actually really like the page holder idea it is functional and I love that it is clear so it isn't blocking the text. I figured out how to flip the pages quickly and that isn't any issue for me at all! It's pricey, and I did find it on another website for $28 but $12 shipping so it ended up being $40 regardless lol sooo... my husband was flabbergasted when I bought it but I assured him it would be worth it so hopefully that stays true lol overall I would recommend!

Makes reading physically easier!
I usually like having a reading pillow of this general nature anyway but I had to replace my old one so I got this one in time for my wrist surgery. It works wonderfully and I was able to read a whole book (Atonement) with this book seat and only one functional hand. It’s lightweight so it was easy to pick up and move around when needed, even with a book in it. There’s structure to the book holding part so that won’t change its shape but the part that rests on you is soft and adjustable. When you need to turn a page you just fold down the clear bar that holds the book open. I’m very glad I got it, it’s made my life easier.

I've tried 4 book holders, this is by far the best one
I typically use this sitting in my lap, usually in a recliner. Positives: Will hold very thick books. I set Riverside Shakespeare on it (a 2050 page hardcover) with the book closed and the page holder had no problem fitting. (However, even though there is a sturdy support in area where you sit your book, this is mostly a beanbag. So I don't know that I would recommend a book that heavy on a regular basis). It's easy to turn pages compared to most book holders since all you have to do is loosen the page holder instead of taking the book out. I haven't had any problem with it damaging books. I haven't had any problems keeping it balanced in my lap. If needed, the page holder can be turned vertical to hold just one side of a book or even loosened enough that you don't have to use it at all. (for instance, if you're on page 2000 of a 2050 page book or want to set a tablet on it) It has a pouch on the back to hold the reading glasses I'm always losing or earbuds if your watching something on a tablet. Negatives: I don't know how well this would work with tall, floppy paperbacks. I've tried it with normal sized paperbacks with no problems, but since the triangular shape provides no support for the top corners of books, I imagine an oversized floppy book would tend to fold back. Other than the support for the book itself, this is basically a beanbag. And while that makes it comfortable and adjustable in your lap, beanbags eventually wear out. So, this might last years because of the book support in it, or might last months. It does have a zipper on the bottom of it that looks like it could be opened to refill it if it ever started to get mashed down, but the way it's sewn in you would need a pair of needle nose pliers and maybe even cut part of the fabric covering the zipper to unzip it. Overall it's comfortable and sturdy in your lap, simple to use, and holds a wide range of books. But it's questionable how long it will last.

Buy This!!
This thing is perfect for a reader. I can sit a read without my hands cramping up. It’s good quality. Lightweight. I got the grey color and like it a lot but there were several good color options. Holds the book great. The holding piece is easily adjusted. It’s a little tricky when you are at the very beginning or end of the book and there’s only a couple pages on one side. This doesn’t really bother me though. I also really like the little pouch on the back with the Velcro flap. It’s the perfect size for my book light.

Best book holder!! Don’t listen to any bad reviews about this product. It is perfect. It is light so that it can comfortably sit on your lap. It is not meant to stand alone with a large book. It is soft and light so that it is comfortable for your body. LOVE IT I have wrist and arm pain and this makes it so easy to read a big heavy book!

I really appreciate how The Book Seat makes the physical act of reading a book so much easier. It turns what can be cumbersome and tiring into a breeze. Almost every size book (and tablets too) fit on this seat. The seat itself sits on a desk or on your lap, sitting up or lying down. The pages stay in place and are easy to turn. It takes the strain off your arms and back and neck because the book is positioned at the right angle for easy reading. Light in weight, very portable, and sturdy while also being soft and comfortable. Exceeded my expectations! I'm very happy with The Book Seat.

It is a handy book/tablet holder so will use it a lot. The pillow part is a bit iffy

I seem to exclusively read e-books on my iPad nowadays. The problem is that the iPad is considerably heavier than most books, and I was getting pain in my hands and fingers. I found this on Amazon and it has been a game changer: by using it to rest the device on my chest and stomach I can take all the stress off my hands. This the second one I have owned: the first gave up the ghost after the stuffing collapsed after 3 years, but given that in use it daily I figure that’s fair enough. I find the plastic retaining piece gets in the way when using it with an iPad so I cut it free. It is a little pricey, but for this purpose the Book Seat works great and it definitely saved my fingers.

It has great potential, but need another cup or two of filling to actually make the book stand stand up on its' own. When the book is in the stand it falls over. I read in bed and i need to place a pillow on my lap to keep the book holder at the optimal level for reading. There is a zipper on the bottom, but I have been unable to slide it open as the toggle is on there.
