It holds up well and is not prone to scratching. Mine has never chipped and is in the same shape as the day I bought it. I used the tool quite a bit. I hope this helps. **Q: Anyone use this with metal and knows how it holds up?** A: Had an earlier model for years and sanded wood, glass, and sharpened metal with it. (ie. wood chisels & knives) the idealer end finally wore out and I purchased this model. Hard to answer that question.
