Mother of the Light: Prayers to the Theotokos

I felt this was represented as a fair amt. of new material. The prayers to The Mother of God as individual prayers are for the most part in terms of theme and content to be found in the Old Orthodox Prayer book and many of these are found there thematically in the precommunion prayers and or canons to the Mother of God. The canons in this volume include : Hymn of Thanksgiving after being delivered from illness, canon of supplication to Mother of God ( evokative of a repentenance of all the evil things I have done) and a very unusual canon which is a tripart conversation between Christ, His mother ( interceding for the sinner) and the sinner taking refuge in the Mother of God- pleading for her intercession. There are 77 pgs devoted to these prayers and canons and some the prayers feel quite familiar to the Old Orthodox Prayerbook .The canons may not be enough to justify purchase cost if you have a main stream Orthodox Prayer book. Yet, there may be found several deeply penitential prayers to the Mother of God , unique to this volume and I find myself editing this review for additional star upon experiencing their effect upon me.The size and craftsmanship of this volume lends to its utility. There are 2 ribbons for bookmarks, two colored fonts, and embossed cover -making for a lovely but fairly costly edition given its scope and function and the tiny font size might be daunting for some.

I agree with everything the previous reviewers said. My only quibble is that my copy came with the embossed cover skewed.

This beautiful prayerbook dedicated to the All Holy Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary far exceeded my expectations! The book, especially its contents, is beyond beautiful. It will open the eyes of one's soul to previously unknown mysteries relative to the Mother of God's role in the story of our salvation! "Most Holy Theotokos save us!"

The books came in a reasonable amount of time. A very pretty, small prayer book to the Mother of God in blue, which is the color associated with her. Very good price. Beautiful prayers.

Book of Prayers arrived promptly, intact, and as offered. High quality.

The book was a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it contains such beautiful heartfelt prayers. A must have for Orthodox Christians.
