The plot thickens
The end of the Theresa arc and the beginning of the hints that both the mythology and the corporation are more mysterious than has been let on. The addition of "awakened beings" gives so real diversity to the monsters as Yoma were much more one note. The art remains clear and clean lined, although sometimes the characters are only differentiated by small details and can be a little confusing in battle scenes although the character design is consistent.

shock and awe.
It’s something that I feel like I mostly see effectively done in denser fantasy stories: the shocking sudden death. That kind of “wtf” just happened death and you go back and re read to make sure you read it right. In this case it’s not even so much that you don’t see the death coming but the way it’s executed is just heartbreaking.

Here on out
This arc onwards is when it starts building up to the true story. After this volume is when you really start getting to it.

This fifth volume of Claymore concludes the flashback to Clare's past that shows Teresa making a fateful choice that will have disastrous consequences not just for her, but for everyone. Once this flashback is done Clare joins a Claymore team sent to track and destroy a dangerous Yoma known as a Voracious Eater. This is another great volume of Claymore that as well as including some good battles, tells us a little more about the organisation and history of the Claymores as well as the most powerful of the Yoma, the Voracious Eater. Claymore is turning into a very interesting series and although I still don't think the artwork is as good as some other series, it is beginning to grow on me.
