A sturdy set and good value
Very nice set of hog hair brushes as pictured. Well packed. The item did have a strong smell but I did wash the brushes and it went away. There was some shedding (very minor) and when I used one of them with oil a few hairs came out but they are so course it was easy to pick out of the paint. I’m very happy with this set for oil painting as they are sturdy and are holding up well. The knife is nice quality and sturdy also.

Quality Brushes for Oil Painting
I've purchased many, many brushes, and most of them were not hog bristle, which is really the best brush for oil painting. Since I paint animals, I like brushes that allow me to get a lot of detail in my paintings. I've always looked for specialty brushes that help attain the look of hair, fur, grass, etc. Other than fan brushes, these specialty brushes are never made of hog bristle, which is understandable. I think it would be difficult to make a wisp brush from anything other than a synthetic bristle. I have become very discouraged with how difficult it is to find a synthetic brush that holds the oil paint well enough to accomplish the effects I'm trying to achieve. I have only one synthetic brush that has worked for painting very fine lines - a zero 3 size, but it's so old that I wanted to replace it. Unfortunately, Amazon no longer carries the brand I had purchased years ago. I've tried other brands, but the brushes just don't hold the paint. In my search, I found this set of hog bristle brushes that includes a #1 liner and a #1 round brush. What a great find. I am able to make fine lines with both of these brushes. Most brushes for sale, including this set, are listed as appropriate for oils, acrylic, and watercolor. That has never made sense to me. These brushes would never work for watercolor, but if you paint with oils, I think you would like this set of brushes. The case is a nice addition as well.

They are well made but I find to be course. Maybe I am just not used to hog hair
They are well presented , having a little case, but I find the hog hair a little rough. I suppose I will get used to them. They do clean well.

Not at all what I expected!
I’m an experienced, professional oil painter, and I tend to be a bit of an art supply snob. I purchased this set simply because it had the brush styles I use most, and it’s an easy travel. I own extremely high-quality brushes that go for $60-$80 a brush (long handle). This set is better than those brushes, and the expensive ones are replaced every 6 months or so. These hold their shape so well and for so long. I’ve been using them for over a year now, and some of them are still in almost perfect condition. I never have brushes last longer than 6-7 months as I’m pretty abusive to them. To still have a few of these still working is a miracle. They thought about the color of the bristles. That’s also a rarity. The part nearest the furle is white/gray. It allows you to see if you have completely cleaned the brush, and further down the bristles it fades to black. Gray gives you the best color accuracy while mixing on a palette, and the black lets you see the level of saturation of paint in the brush. I would NOT recommend these for watercolor use. They simply aren’t made to absorb the amount of water to use watercolor properly. I highly recommend getting this set as for anyone who paints in acrylic or oil. Both beginners and professionals will find great things about them. I will continue to order these until they are discontinued. I would love to see the same quality in long handle brushes as well.

The brushes fall apart
I’ve put these brushes to the test, and the bristles literally slide in and out with almost no effort. This isn’t just a few loose hairs—whole chunks come out, and the brush basically falls apart. After using the small brushes once, they were already unusable. In my video, you can even see it happening with the larger brush. It’s a shame, because I really like the variety, and they’re easy to clean and work well with oil paints. But the quality just isn’t there if the bristles won’t stay in. I’ve only had them a few weeks, and already 5 brushes are completely unusable. Very disappointing purchase.
