I was pleasantly surprised when I attached a keychain and was still able to easily remove the card in the vertical slot; I can slide it up with my thumb and it bumps the keyring a little, but it comes right out. Both the vertical and horizontal slots hold the cards snugly, so no worries about them falling out.
