Times are hard for Toxie. Whats a hideously deformed creature of superhuman size and strength to do after hes eliminated crime from his hometown? Desperate to raise money for the experimental surgery that could restore his blind fiancées eye, Toxie accepts a lucrative job with the evil multinational conglomerate Apocalypse Inc. The Toxic Avenger must defeat his own inner demons before taking on the Devil himself in a battle royale, while the e of Tromaville hangs in the balance. .com ---- Troma Films' Toxic Avenger series shows its lack of legs with the second sequel to its 1985 hit. Despite a typically absurd premise, which has Toxie battling Satan to save his hometown of Tromaville, the film lacks the go-for-broke gags and gore that made the first two films such guilty pleasures. Part of the reason for this may be that the movie was culled from footage for The Toxic Avenger, Part II; Troma heads Lloyd Kaufman (who also helmed the feature) and Michael Herz simply stitched together Part III from the loose ends. While haphazard construction is part of the charm of Troma's films, the relatively high quality of the Toxic Avenger series raised the bar, and the slapdash nature of Part III is more of a disappointment than a campy source of humor. A second commentary by regular Troma repertory player Joe Fleishaker is included, and it must be pointed out that both tracks do not exactly provide a wealth of information. Both Kaufman and Fleishaker repeatedly declare that their memory is somewhat faulty regarding this film, so if you're looking for the definitive behind-the-scenes story on Part III, you won't find it here. The supplemental features are rounded out by several new interviews with cast and crew members, trailers for all four Toxie features, a strange short called "Naked Dance of the Damned ," and a hilarious clip of Troma's Sgt.
