Beware of counterfeits
Okay so I actually bought the blue set of these from a different seller and gave them five stars. When I bought the red ones I actually recieved a completely different inferior set of red bokken with soft foam handles, soft yellow foam hilts and are extremely flimsy. These are commonly passed off as the red bokken that is in the picture but they are actually inferior counterfeits that are childrens playtoys. The real non-counterfeit red ones have hard plastic handles with hard high-tech foam hilts and are sturdier and not flimsy like the counterfeits. I do not believe that it is fair to give the actual red bokken I should have received a low rating based on the counterfeit that is not the actual item, so I will leave the same review I left for the blue ones and I will leave pics of fake counterfeit ones to watch out for: I have been studying martial arts, fencing, Bushido and Wing Chun sword styles for nearly 35 years and I can attest that these are quality padded bokken and the best practice sword for beginners or intermediates and masters to spar with beginners and they are lots of fun da'boot. I like these better than the ones with the wooden handle because the wooden handled ones have the handle and the sword core seperately. In these practice bokken the core and the handle are one single piece. If you actually break these you need to calm down and/or give up sword fighting. They are very tough and pretty firm. They only bend a little tiny bit which is good if you study fencing. They are somewhat heavy but practice swords should be heavier that their live equivalent to build strength. I actually perform most of my katas with a heavy practice weapon to build wrist muscles. They can also hurt when you get hit and can leave bruises but they cannot do anything more than cause a bruise or a sore nose. Also you might want to wear gloves while handling these, or any kind of bokken or sword. An experienced swordsman always wears gloves. Here are the pictures of the counterfeits to watch out for. If you receive bokken that look like the ones in these pic you should return them the are fakes and childrens toys.

Good product
I bought these for my son who practices aikido and sword/staff. I was looking for a soft, padded "sword" that could take some abuse yet be safe in case kids got carried away. There is a rigid center which forms the core of the handle and most of the sword, with a decent amount of foam padding around. The tip (about 3 inches) is foam only. The handle is simply made of dense forms of lesser amount and different color. The sword is heavy enough to prevent my son from wielding it around single-handedly yet light enough to perform overhead strikes without tiring his arms. Overall, I'm happy. The swords can definitely withstand some serious practice sessions. I will be supervising each time my son and aikido friends use these though. The swords are rigid enough they would do some damage if used for something other than gentle practice sessions.

Well made, but they look longer in the picture.
They are well made and are good to practice with. I wish they were longer.

Great for kids to play with
Bought this for my 6 year old son. I wanted something he and his friends could use that would hold up to the abuse while not causing any damage to each other. This is perfect. Most of the other foam swords (toys) would fall apart after a few uses. This has been through several rounds of play and shows no signs of wear. I suspect if an adult swung it hard it would be felt, but that’s not the point. Just trying to give you a feel for the density of the material.

Exceeded my expectations.
I got a set in December 2019. It is October 6th, 2022 and they are STILL going strong. Myself and my kids pick these up quite frequently to take out our frustrations on one another. They are great for sword fighting but surprisingly they have also survived kids using them in a manner that they should have broken by now. I was checking back to see if this company has any other products like a staff or something, I am disappointed they don't seem to make anything else because I would buy it no hesitation. Don't waste your time with the flimsy stuff they sell at department stores and get these now.

Bought 3 sets to increase our family fitness during lockdowns. A tremendous amount of fun and very resilient. A bunch of full contact 'bear pit' sparring and they still look and feel brand new. Note that for younger/new fighters the 'blade' is fairly high density foam (think wrestling mat) and they will probably want to wear hand as well as head and eye protection. You will know when you get hit :-). If you are looking for a product to safely spar with weapons, this one will do. *purchased the red model as it was $10 cheaper than the black ;-)
