Helps raise a 90lb spindle sander in my garage shop
I installed this in a garage cabinet to hold a large, 90lb “benchtop” spindle sander out of the way. It was simple to install. It works well to help raise and lower my sander even though it exceeds the recommended weight limit. No way I’d be lifting that up and down all the time without the help of these springs! Given my use case, I’ve added a few shop-quality mods to make it more stable when sanding. There’s some side-to-side play on its own. After stowing, I add a removable wood block underneath, otherwise the springs are too lightweight to hold it all the way back. When extended and locked in place for use, I temporarily add 2 cabinet lifts under the base for support. They help eliminate the side-to-side movement and add support for my 90lb sander plus wood. For small, quick jobs, it’s been fine locking in place on its own, but as I’m already exceeding the weight limit, those cabinet lifts give me extra peace of mind.

Plan Carefully First
I purchased this device to lift a Kitchen Aid 6 qt mixer and a juicer. The cabinet is 20 inches wide and 23 inches deep. I ended up with a shelf for the mixer that was 15 1/2 in. wide by 21 in. deep. This was more than the instructions would have given me. I did several things to maximize the storage space. First, I attached a board to the side of my workbench to simulate the side of the cabinet. I used masking tape to sketch the depth of the slab overhang, the slab thickness and the cabinet top thickness. I mounted one of the side mechanisms to the workbench board and kept adjusting its location so the shelf would provide internal clearance as well as come out and be just a little above parallel with the countertop when extended. The top surface of my workbench simulated the top of my countertop slab. This took a little trial and error, but it certainly was easier than trying to do this inside the cabinet. When satisfied, I made a carboard template of where the side mounting plate was located in relation the cabinet front and top. Then it was simply a matter of attaching the template to the cabinet and drilling some holes. Some things to keep in mind: 1. My cabinet door hinges interfered with mechanism, so I had to add an additional 3/4' block to that side. I also removed the soft-closing device from one of the hinges and remounted it out of the way. This regained 1/2" more shelf width. 2. When I had the two side mechanisms on my workbench I should have adjusted the spring attachment bolt to the highest range. It is much easier to do this before you install the mechanism in the cabinet!!! 3. Keep in mind that the mechanism, when retracting, is at it lowest point as it enters the cabinet, then rises slightly when finally stowed. This could interfere with anything stowed below it. In my case, about 2/3 of the vertical interior cabinet space was used by this device. Finally, let me say that this is one rugged and well made mechanism. I'm sure I could put at least 60 lbs on it and have it rotate out to cabinet height with little assistance. Just do what you can to understand its motion before you try to install it.

LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT
This product is a very heavy duty mixer shelf. My husband actually installed it in a cabinet that had a drawer over the door. If you are going to do this, make sure you measure carefully as the mixer shelf will take up the entire lower cabinet--from top to bottom. You need to allow room for the height of the mixer and for the fact that the mechanism swings all the way to the bottom of the cabinet. If you install in a cabinet with a drawer over it, please consider that the shelf for the mixer will not come up to the height of the counter top, but it will be approximately 4-5 inches below the counter top. I have a large 6-quart Kitchen Aid mixer which is quite tall and I am only 5'1" tall, so it works perfectly for me. It is actually at a more workable level for me than when it was sitting on the counter top. We found that installing it with this set up meant that the mixer would have to sit parallel to the counter due to the height restriction of having a drawer over the cabinet. The instructions were excellent and my husband said they were easy to follow. It does take a long time to install because you'll need to do a lot of precise measuring. My cabinets are white and we used a 3/4" thick x 15 3/4" deep piece of white prefinished shelving from Home Depot and my husband cut it approximately 20 1/2" long and left the 15 3/4" side uncut. The shelving works great because it is the recommended 3/4" thick and is finished on three sides. He placed a 2" high piece on the 15 3/4" backside as a 'backsplash' so that I can store attachments there and they won't slip off the shelf and end up in the back of the cabinet. The delivery was so quick we couldn't believe it. This device will be a God-send for me and I look forward to never again having to lift that heavy mixer from my cabinet.

Good value. Soft close is great.
We've purchased a number of Rev-a-shelf items. The options get a little confusing but this is a nice piece. You need to provide your own shelf for the mixer. We have ours in a 15" cabinet. I'd probably recommend an 18" but the 15" works, it's just tight and a small shelf space. Lifting requires you to bend down to reach under and release tabs. It would be better if there could be a top release. Once up and locked in it's fine, and when released again it floats back into the cabinet very nicely.

Rev-A-Shelf Heavy Duty Lift System
Let's face it, if you have to dig an appliance out of a cabinet, especially if it is a heavy appliance, you are probably not going to bother. Such has been the case with our Kitchen-Aid unit since it was stored on a back lower shelf. Wanting to do something about that, we started looking for a way to hide the unit in a cabinet, but make it easy to bring out to use. We found this Rev-A-Shelf unit and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, I have not found a way to upload user pictures of their device, so I will just have to describe what we did. We had a narrow cabinet under the counter that this unit would just fit inside. Actually, we had to notch the sides just a small bit for the shelf to enter and exit the cabinet easily. The unit was fairly straight forward to install, but turned out to be a bit of a pain because we were putting it into a very tight cabinet. That did not leave much room to move around in. Still, it installed easily enough and it works GREAT!! The shelf lifts the mixer out easily and locks into place. The shelf is very stable and the mixer is very steady. When you are done, the unit easily releases and goes back down into the cabinet. Easy enough now that we no longer find excuses NOT to use it!!!! If you have the space to devote to this, I would highly recommend it!

Heavy duty spring
I purchased this spring to have a sturdy shelf for my pop up mixer. It is easy to use and looks great. The fit was perfect since I had my own cutting board for sturdiness.

Soft Close a Must. Studs a Must.
I bought this shelf as part of my wife’s Christmas gifts. She loved it, but the process to mount it was arduous. If I was a handyman, I would charge $100+ to install it if there was proper support (studs) in place. If not, probably $300+. The lift is great! My wife has used it for a couple months now and even with thick dough, it doesn’t move. Soft close is a must, for your convenience and safety. As far as installation goes, my wife and I’s home had “handyman” cabinets installed by the prior owner. In short, there was not sufficient support to hold 60lbs, plus the weight of the shelf itself, 30lbs… about 90lbs total. So I had to build a cabinet to insert into the cabinet space. This was arduous but imperative. This was in addition to building the wood base for the mixer to sit on, which was not included. I bought a nice piece of poplar, which I cut, glued and then affixed to a piece of 3/4” plywood for added support. Do a little research. You maybe able to order a butcher block or use a high density plastic cutting board. Whatever your style. I should mention. I didn’t trust the screws that came with the shelf, so I bought some bolts, as well as a heavy duty gate handle to help lift. I love the result (and my wife’s reaction was worth it). It blends perfectly with the original wood cabinets, but it was a lot of work. Mounting the shelf itself took a couple of hours. But know this: INCREASING THE TENSION IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE DONE WITH TWO PEOPLE. They included a picture of one person pulling back on the tension rod, constantly while they also removed the tension screw. I tried this, and the spring snapped like a bear trap. I could have EASILY lost a finger. My solution? Use a 1” thick hollow pipe that’s 12” or more. Insert the tension pull into pipe and use that added torque to adjust it to 60lbs. I did this myself, but I highly recommend 2 people. You can do this! Just be sure to give yourself 5-10x more time than you THINK you’ll need! Be safe!

False Claim
I am currently working on a kitchen remodel and was looking for an american company to purchase cabinet organizers. Looking through the company literature I was pleased to see the claim that Rev-A-Shelf products were Made in the USA. I ordered a Heavy-Duty Mixer Lift. Imagine my surprise when the box arrived with “Made In China” printed on the outside. To add to this hoax, inside was a flyer with an American flag proclaiming they were an “official supplier” of “Homes for our Troops”. Supplying Chinese made products and lying about it is not the way to support our troops. I will not be ordering anymore products from this deceitful company. This company does not deserve a star.
