Sennheiser HD 229 White/Orange Headphones

In the past I've owned both the Bose SoundTrue Headphones and the equivalent of the current Sennheiser HD 239 Headphones, so I can probably give a better comparison than most.I'm a huge Sennheiser fan, and what I tell people is that while their $30.00 headphones routinely outperform headphones that cost triple that from other manufacturers, every dollar more you spend does indeed produce noticeably better sound if you buy Sennheiser.Unlike their more expensive Sennheiser big brother, these are a leatherette, cheap-feeling yet very comfortable material for the earpieces. The sound is a bit tinny sounding at first, but after a few hours of break-in (not days, or weeks like the more expensive Sennheisers) the sound expands out nicely.You won't get the deeper bass and fuller sound of a more expensive pair of headphones, but if you despise earbuds as I do and are at work or elsewhere where sound-isolation is a bad idea these phones are excellent.Sound is cool, and optimized for pop-music. You have crystal clear vocals, but the instrumentation seems to drop away unless you increase the volume to a good level. Play these good and loud and your poor-quality mp3s of radio hits will shine.I recommend these instead of the Bose SoundTrue model as they are one third the price and sound slightly better (the Bose set gave me a headache).Recommended also to anyone just starting out with "real" headphones. Oh, and they are NOT pink. They are maroon in color.

I received this order today and became negative as soon as I started to open the package. It was totally encapsulated in heavy bounded plastic that had to be cut with heavy plastic cutting shears. Perhaps not much of a problem for other people but I am on a blood thinner and even with all due precaution I strained to get the headphones out. They are totally bound in heavy plastic as though they would be on a retail shelf. The sound is great but I have other issues. I do like the single wire but it is quite thin and I wonder how lone they will last. The cable does not appear durable at all.Another big issue is that I do have a rather large head and the fit on these headphones is quite tight. I will struggle through all of the problems and probably purchase another headphone carry case due to the thine cable.As stated the sound is excellent, and the earphones are comfortable. I believe that they will not create a warm feeling after long time periods.If you can work around my problems then I would but a pair. I have other Sennheiser products in my house which are all great but not these for me.They appear to be well constructed, other than the thin cable. I also can see that I will miss the inline volume control. But I was aware of that issue when I placed my order.Summing up, I believe the main issue is that of size, or lack thereof.

Like other reviewers have mentioned, the packaging is a nightmare. The attached cord is very thin and has a lot of kinks in it that I have repeatedly tried to smooth out with minimal success. They are very lightweight and attractive looking, but if you're wanting crisp sound these aren't what you want. Maybe it's because the headphones aren't designed to fit snugly over the ears? I bought them for traveling and they'll be okay for that, but I can't imagine they'll hold up for very long. Maybe I have to keep using them for the audio quality performance to improve. I'm just perplexed with the 5 star ratings as these headphones aren't what I was expecting given the brand name. All in all, if you're looking for lightweight and comfortable these are great, but you'll be not happy with quality of sound. Another drawback is that the audio cord is not detachable. I'm shocked that the original price for these was around $75. They should've been priced at $15. One review mentioned that these are for kids. After examining them, I'd have to agree with that assessment. I don't usually give a midrange review but I am passionate about the quality of a product and have owned enough sets of headphones to feel that I have a good knowledge base. I had a pair of "limited edition kools" that were awesome. Sadly over time due to a design flaw, the tiny wires that were attached to the earcups frayed. I will keep these, use them on the plane, but I will be looking for a different brand to use when I seriously want to listen to music or watch movies.*edited February 5, 2016: These are superb for traveling and the sound quality is greatly enhanced by the FiiO portable amplifier. The cord is still kinked, but I do like them. They are comfortable with long- term (5+ hours) use, and manage to muffle ambiant sounds of aircraft.

Have now owned these over ear headphones for over 2 years, and use them every day (they are very thin and portable). Quality product; have outlasted my problem cat as well as many other headphones. Would buy/recommend!I have owned many pairs of earphones in the last year, and all end up falling apart, or (such as my last pair) get eaten by a cat. I decided to buy some earphones so this would not happen, but was looking for quality. I have loved Sennheiser in the past as I find that they make a good product, but many earphones looked beyond my price range. I saw this pair up for $75 on the website, and though they looked good, I did not want to spend THAT much on a pair of earphones. Just as I was going to settle for the cheap $30 earphones, I saw that amazon was selling this pair for only $30! For my money, they are beyond what quality I expected, outperforming even Beat in sound quality while keeping a cool look to them. I have been using these earphones night and day for the last few months, and I can confidently say I would recommend these to anyone. Not only are they incredibly comfy, but they also deliver great sound, from the lows to the highs. The noise reduction also works like a charm, tuning out everything else. These earphones have outperformed in every way to most other $100 earphones, for only a $30 price tag! If you are thinking about buying, do not hesitate, it will be worth your while!

Es un excelente par de audífonos si consideras el costo/beneficio. Por este precio es muy competitivo en la calidad de sonido y además es muy cómodo al utilizar por largos periodos de tiempo.Obviamente no son los mejores del mercado pero obtienes lo que pagas y un poco más.Excelente compra.

These headphones met all my expectations. There were a few reviews I read, that complained about these headphones. And I'm glad I didn't listen to any off them. Good headphones, fair price and they save your ears. Earbuds destroy your ears permanently eventually. So take them out of your ears and order some headphones.

Sennheiser para mi representan calidad en audio, sea en sus modelos económicos y mucho más en los caros, en éste caso HD229 tienen una relación costo/calidad-de-sonido excelente, son cómodos y sin duda vale la pena comprarlos para tener un dispositivo que te permita escuchar mejor tu música favorita, desde luego hay que recordar que éstos no es lo mejor que tiene la marca pero por el precio y sus funciones es perfecto.

J'utilise ce casque avec mon baladeur CD et le son est excellent. Même à avoir comparé avec un autre Sennheiser plus haut de gamme, je préfère le son de celui ci, plus immédiat et rond. Théoriquement milieu de gamme, en réalité il me paraît haut de gamme tant je l'utilise pour la course à pied avec un baladeur mp3 (son "correct" mais ne vaut pas CD - mais cela ne vient pas du casque !). C'est dire si le câble est resistant (il n'est pas rare qu'un geste brusque fasse tirer sur le câble, et cela n'y fait rien ! alors qu'avec les casques des générations précédentes cela était fatal...). Aussi pour m'endormir en musique. Coussins de confort qui permettent de masquer de façon quasi totale les bruits alentours. Acheté en 2013 à 42€, le prix a beaucoup augmenté.. Mais vu la durabilité, l'investissmeent reste très intéressant.

This is one of the most comfortable headphones in the market. It's just 90 grams & is built with hard plastic. The quality of sound is top notch. Highs and Mids are excellent. Bass is not as advertised. But it improves after you burn in. If you listen to music for hours & you don't want your ears to hurt, this is the headphones you're looking for.
