If the wife and I decide to go for a short spin around the neighborhood, we don't have to change shoes to do it. These pedals give us that luxury. If we're going on a long ride, we'll definitely go for cycling shoes. The downside is the loss of double-side pedals for starts - starts are more coordinated/planned on a tandem than on a half-bike. But I knew that going in, so being able to ride in sneakers makes it worth a little inconvenience. I'm very happy with the purchase. Review: Does the job, but platform side doesn't have much grip - Review is for the Shimano A530 SPD Pedals (Black) These were the first clipless pedals I bought; I wanted the option of using regular shoes or clipping in. Pros: - Solid clips. Even at the lowest tension, I have never accidentally disengaged (SH51 cleats) - Weighted so clips spin to the top - No problems with dirt or debris clogging pedals - Good value for the money Cons: - Platform side does not have a very aggressive tread. In fact, I find them rather slippery, especially when wet. I would recommend pedals with a more aggressive platform side. - If you use occasionally use your cleats on the platform side, expect the paint and nubs to wear off quickly. After less than a year and a couple hundred miles, the outside nubs are nearly flat, and the paint on the platform side is all tore up. The silver color would hide the paint damage much better. Overall 4/5; I just wish the platform side had a better tread or a slip resistant covering.

BROKE!
I've had these pedals just over a year, though I've only ridden with them 3 times due to being off the bike for medical reasons. The clip was always difficult to adjust (even by a bike shop pro) from the moment I got them. Today I checked my bike & the clip piece has actually broken off. It was lying on the floor of my garage, just snapped in 2 places. That can't be good. The bike is stored in my garage on a rack away from everything, so no wear & tear. It just broke sitting there! This is unacceptable for such pricey pedals.

Great pedals
Newbie to clip in pedals and I like the dual sided for using regular street shoes. once adjusted, these pedals are easy to release when necessary, now my wife wants a set.

Pedals are not what I expected
I purchased these pedals to primarily use clipped in, but with the option to wear normal shoes on occasion. When wearing normal shoes these pedals are very nice. They can be slippery when wet, but I have had no issues slipping off the pedal when wearing normal shoes. When wearing shoes with cleats these pedals are very stubborn. Once you get clipped into the pedal everything is great and they provide a secure platform for your foot. However, when you stop at an intersection or any other place you need to quickly take off again these pedals are very disappointing. I constantly have to look down and see what side of the pedal is facing up before I begin pedaling. Even if I have the proper side facing up it is a 50/50 chance that once you start pedaling the pedal will flip over on you leaving you trying to pedal with one foot clipped in while also trying to get out of the way of vehicles. If you absolutely need to have a dual-purpose type pedal that can be used with normal shoes and cleat shoes then this is probably your best bet. If you want these for the occasional ride with normal shoes with a primary usage clipped in do not buy this. They are very frustrating to use if you have frequent stops/starts.

Platform Side is a Bit Slippery
I purchased these for use on a Trek DS8.5 hybrid mountain bike. They are my first experience with a clipless setup and I now can't imagine *not* having a clipless setup on each of my bikes. I have them paired with a Shimano SH56 SPD Cleat Set and Shimano SH-MT43G Bike Shoes For Men . Pros - I initially thought clipless shoes and pedals weren't "necessary". After using them, I was surprised by just how much they increase pedaling efficiency. It's surprising how much I can relax my upper legs when I don't have to concentrate on keeping my feet from slipping off the pedals. Being able to pull up during the pedal stroke also adds a significant amount of extra power when needed. - The dual platform lets me use regular shoes--or simply not clip in when wearing clipless shoes. It's also nice to have the platform side to get the bike up to speed (or out of a difficult spot) before clipping in. - Plenty of adjustability. I have the cages set to a loose setting. With the SH56 cleats, it's easy to twist out of the cages but it's nearly impossible to unclip from the cages by pulling straight up (i.e., they're working as designed). - Good, sturdy metals. - They don't look as aggressive as some other mountain bike clipless pedals, so they match the styling of hybrid bikes or leisure bikes a bit better. Cons - Because the nubs on the platform side are broad and blunt, they don't offer much traction, and my shoes slip around on them more than I'd prefer. - The black paint scratches off very easily. - The cages are a little more difficult to clip into than I would prefer: I have to fish around a bit to get the cleat to engage. This could be the result of the shoe and cleat combination as much as the pedal. (I'm comparing this setup with the same shoes on Shimano PD-M324 SPD Dual Platform Pedal , which are quite a bit easier to clip into.) The pedals would be nearly perfect if the platform side had a bit more traction.
