It does what it's should. Now there are two things one should note when purchasing!1. The material is very soft, so when you proceed to boiling the mouth piece two minutes in steaming hot water is way to much. Proper way is to: first have a glass of cold water on stand by, then get a small pot of water boiling and then drop the piece in. Very so often remove it quickly to check how soft it is. When it right enough; it will almost feel like semi soft play-doo, gather a mouth full cold water in your mouth, tilt your head back and just slide the mouth piece in (dont worry it wont burn you as long as the water is very cold)2. Make sure you insert the mouth piece properly into your mouth and bite just hard enough so it can form tightly round your teeth. Also tilt ur head back enough so that the cold water does not touch the mouth piece before it forms round your teeth, because once the cold water gets into contact with the piece... it holds it form unless you to the steps all over again ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect fit! *by P***I on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 5, 2014* I was a bit hesitant because the price here on Amazon seemed to low compared to other mouth guards we've purchased from big box stores in the past for my active children either for football, wrestling, jui jitsu, etc. (this time its for my 11 year olds basketball season). I did not want sacrifice quality to save a couple of bucks (more like $10), however we decided to order this and give it a shot.When the product arrived, we read the instruction (very basic...boil water, place mouth guard in water for about 7 seconds, remove from water, place in mouth [which was warm for my 11 year old son, but not hot], bite down for about 10 seconds, then run cool water over mouth guard). Done!I have, and continue to coached many children in multiple sports, and I've distributed 100's of "youth size" mouth guards in the past. This is the ONLY one that we did not have to trim due to product being to long that it makes a child gag. PERFECT FIT!!I recommend this product be purchased for ANY ACTIVITY child. I did the boiling cycle several times to get a better shape. If you have a smaller mouth, I do recommend getting the child size. Apparently I have a small mouth (5'3" woman) and this made me gag. By the time I finished with the scissors I think I'd cut half the material off.I used these for whitening trays and they're great for that. Don't be afraid to keep boiling them and reshaping/cutting. The material is very thick and especially if you are not actually using it as a guard for sports or something, you don't need that thick of material around your teeth. It just makes you drool a ton since you likely won't be able to close your mouth. It's also hard to wear them both on the top and bottom teeth at once when they're that thick.
