My grandson is using the block oriented Scratch language.

No, the other answers have replied your question, its based on Arduino, but not use a standard Arduino board, you need to purchase seperately. FOr mBot, we have two different versions： bluetooth and 2.4G.

Dear Customer, mBot currently only have the Bluetooth version. Both the mBot and mBot with dongle use Bluetooth. f your devices is not compatible with Bluetooth 4.0 and up, mBot Blue with Dongle is recommended to you If you use cellphone or devices that support Bluetooth 4.0 and up, you can choose mBot.
