It's about as thick and soft as a standard Japanese futon. It's not as plush as some fancier ones I've slept on, but this is a good price for a full set. I'd definitely recommend getting covers for everything though--you don't want to be touching it directly when you sleep.This is a good thickness if you plan to put it on carpet. If you want to put it on a hardwood floor, I'd get an inch-thick foam mat to put underneath it.Duvet is thick, heavy, and warm. I have no issues sleeping with the windows open when it's cold outside. It makes me not want to get out of bed in the morning, which is a sign of a good futon.The pillow is great too. I personally dislike big, poofy pillows, so this works well for me.

Took about two nights to break in and now I fall asleep almost instantly. Great on the back. Worth every penny.

Set this up as a guest bed at my mother’s home. Perfect, packable and comfortable.I’m getting old and will likely add a second mattress to my mix.

I haven't found any real flaws with my futon, pillow, or comforter. And despite coming from Japan, it arrived quickly and I was even thanked by the company for my purchase and they wished me well. Very happy with my purchase.
