Bachmann Civil War - Union HO Scale Ready To Run Electric Train Set

First off... I haven't ran the Loco yet because I'm setting up newer track. I would NEVER use the track supplied with this Trainset because (in MY opinion) much like "Life-Like" it's only fit for BATTERY operated trains. The head lamp on the Loco is tilted foreward a little but otherwise seems to be in good shape. The only other problem was with the Combine... It's left strut was bent in and a little deformed. I fixed it by holding it above a "Tea Candle" while straightening it out.All and all it SEEMS to be a nice little train set and when I get the 3 Canons together I'll put them on the Gondola.Feb. 8th 2014... Just a little hard getting all the wheels of Loco & Tender on track. However once in place it ran just fine. I ran it for about 30 minutes on my "GOOD" track. I DID notice that the Tender DOES indeed need a little more weight. So as soon as I get some time I'll see if there's room under the Coal Load to add some.

This was a gift for my husband, who loves this time period in American history and wanted a period specific electric train that included figures and other such items.Although Bachmann correctly made this electric steam train appear like those from the American Civil War period in history, theycheapened it with so much plastic. Also, unlike some of their other cheaper-priced models, this train did not even include a smoking engine (nor a functioning whistle, either). A non-smoking steam train? Had this really been the case with full scale models of the time, neither the diesel nor the modern electric train would've ever been invented (joking). Due to these issues, this purchase rates a 3 out of 5 stars.

Great buy!!! detailed and east to set up..I thought figurines would be larger but its ok, the trains are exceptionally detailed and worth the money...Besides that, the kids love it....

The detail on the engine and cars is sweet and true for the Civil War era. However the parts of this product are fragile. Now I'm not a child, but a 60 old year man that knows how to take care of his trains. The first 2 weeks I owned it the cow catcher broke in the ram guide, called Bachmann and after jumping thru a few hoops they sent me a new one without any apoligizes. At first they actually told me I'd have to pay $15.00 minimun even with the engines "Life Time" warrenty. Be carefull with the car couples, also fragile. Otherwise this is nice train set, but over priced for the quality.

The train has too much plastic in it which makes it really fragile. The figures it comes with are really plain and cheap looking. They are really tiny and fragile plastic. The figures are basically worthless. The train is marketed as if you are getting a lot of extras with it but in reality you are paying a lot of money for a cheap plastic train.

Tons of little tiny soldiers and it is just a train that does nothing special. If you are a collector it may be worth it.
