Herschel Novel Duffel Bag, Ash Rose/Tan Synthetic Leather, Classic 42.5L

I use this as my “overnight” bag for work. I carry it almost every day. It’s made very well like everything else from Herschel. This bag gets tossed in and out of the trunk of my car on a near daily basis and it doesn’t have one blemish or tear in it. As for the space, I am able to keep a replacement uniform as well as day and night outfits for the next day and a cosmetics bag comfortably in the main compartment. If you are going to put shoes or boots in it, then you’ll have space for about 2 complete outfits rather than 3. The inside mesh pocket is a great place for chargers and a couple bottles of daily medication. The outside accessed lined pocket will work well for dirty laundry or shoes if you need it to, but obviously it’s going to diminish the available space inside the bag. I don’t use the lined pocket often. The handles and shoulder straps are well made and sturdy as is the main zipper. I have had this filled to the brim a few times and noticed the strong stitching in the zipper. I don’t regret this purchase one bit. In my opinion, most other duffle bags are smaller with poorer quality. Any bigger and this bag wouldn’t be so functional and easy to carry. It’s perfect.

This is one of my favorite products - because it is so clearly designed with the customer in mind. I use it for weekend trips and have used it as my default bag during a career in consulting for Monday-Thursday travel projects. This duffel fits in smaller overhead bins of regional jets that do not fit a rollerboard, which was a key selling point for me when considering it for business travel. The bag itself is sturdy, durable and stylish. One of the best features is the pocket for storing shoes separately. For weekend trips or business trips where I would like to exercise, this pocket allowed me to store my running shoes and workout clothes and socks separately from my dress clothes which were folded neatly inside the body of the duffel. Overall it's a great bag. I own one myself and have bought one for another family member as a gift when they began a career that involved short business travel.

I love Herschel products. Admittedly, living in a car-based small city I don’t need a backpack often, but my first Herschel purchase was a backpack that I still use…ten years ago. So when I got the itch to do some more shopping in anticipation of some car travel, I immediately looked to Herschel for something that would work well for my small weekend jaunts. I was hoping to find something portable but roomy, and I certainly was not disappointed. I love the shoe space, which is spacious enough for two pairs of shoes…with my travel pair on my feet that means I have three pairs of shoes for any trips I take—more than enough! Being the child of divorce, I’ve mastered the art of packing tightly for the weekend, so I feel comfortable in saying that I can pack four days worth of clothes in this duffel, including cold weather and sleep clothes. That’s why I’m giving it a five star recommendation. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied with this item for years to come.

Stylish and durable!

I'm already a fan of Herschel products. I own two backpacks, but wanted something I could use for travel. I was looking for a bag I could use as a carry on, but was small enough that I could also carry it with me during my travels without being weighed down. I purchased it right before a trip to the SF/Oakland area. I fit in a blazer or sweater for those chilly mornings by the bay, a tablet, some books, and a mobile charger for my devices. Everything fit great with plenty of room for anything I wished to purchase in my travels. The features are great. I love the separate shoe compartment, it saves me from having to wrap my shoes in plastic bags before packing. The camo is a great color and very stylish. The zipper and material seem to be of high quality and I can imagine this holding up under heavy use. My only complaint is that I wish there was a zippered bag on the inside for small items. There is a small compartment with a stretch lining that can hold some things, but moving around things can fall out. Overall, great bag for a good price.

I cannot say enough good things about this bag! I purchased this bag because I was going back and forth a few times a week from my house to my girlfriends house and needed a bag to take back and forth. I didn't want something with a ton of pockets or straps or anything. I was just in the market for a simple bag, and the simplicity of this bag is where it shines. There is no other way to describe it other than simple. I took the shoulder strap off and would just carry it around using the two handles. There is only one pocket the inside, which was all that I needed just for simple toiletry items. There is a pocket on the outside as well for shoes, which came in handy so that I didn't have to carry a pair of shoes separately on their own. Also, the build quality of the bag is exceptional, the material of the bag itself is a very nice rugged material that I'm sure can hold up to just about whatever you throw at it. The handles are of the highest quality as well and I feel like they will never wear down or break Overall, this is an amazing bag and I would recommend it to anybody looking for a nice simple duffle bag that is still of the highest quality.

This is hands down the perfect weekender bag. The shoe compartment (able to easily handle a pair of size 12 boots) is a huge plus and helps keep any dirt or sand (for when you go to the beach) that may be on or in your spare pair of shoes away from the rest of your clothes. The bag is light and roomy with sturdy handles and a shoulder strap that I have yet to break (you'd be surprised at how often I break these things). Overall I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable, good quality weekender bag. Just FYI, mine smelled a little funky when i got it, but I just let it air out for a day or 2 and everything was okay. Not sure if this was just my bag and where it was stored or if this is normal for Herschel bags.

Got this to replace a trusty but increasingly worn-out gym bag. I was in two minds because the old one had a useful exterior pockets. But as soon as I used it, I was really glad I went with this duffel. It's the perfect size, and the sides and base keep their shape, enabling it to fit neatly in a locker, and making it easy to get at your kit when the zip is open. The zipped shoe compartment in works really well. Apart from shoes you can use it to separate wet swimming kit, or put your gym kit there so you can pull it out in one go if you're in a hurry. The faux leather on this model is much better than I expected, it's soft and not at all cardboard-like, and while it doesn't smell of real leather, it looks the part. Some photos make it look like the blue colour bleeds into the 'leather' straps, but that's not the case, it's very smart. The traditional Herschel red ticking interior is cheerful and it makes it easier to find my stuff (which is mostly black, and completely indistinguishable in the gloomy, disintegrating black interior I'm used to). The lack of a small exterior pocket is the one departure from perfection, but hasn't been a huge problem. It's quite easy to reach into the interior pocket (opposite end to the shoe compartment), and grab your gym pass or locker keys without fully opening the bag. I still think they could have a small outside pocket without spoiling the clean shape. Looking closely, it seems some models may have a sleeve between the two vertical straps, but if so, it looks like a side-effect of having a waistline design around the bag. Making that standard without having to have a two-tone bag would be my one suggestion!

This is an excellent weekender bag. It's the usual expected Herschel canvas quality of other Herschel products I have purchased (backpack and 2 x toilet bags). I really loved the separate shoe compartment. It folds up flat for easy storage and is a good size which means you can get plenty packed inside. Would purchase again. Thanks.

Really nice bag but too large for daily gym use so had to return. The shoe compartment is a great idea and really useful. Material looks a lot like jean material.
