### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ exped megamat clone
*by A***L on August 14, 2021*

I'm a car/tent camper so carrying a little more gear is possible for me now that I'm not hiking in. I've been using air mattresses for years and have gotten really good at repairs in the field (anybody else make the duck tape + super glue + midnight gas station run? :)I got tired of the epic fail of the air mattress and decided to try the 4", self inflated, format might be more comfortable (less bounce) and less dramatic for said midnight fail.My first mattress arrived and was test driven for three nights on the floor before I learned how to adjust the valve perfectly in the middle of the night without loosing all my air by morning due to operator error. The good news is that I was still able to sleep a little when it did loose it's air. Properly adjusted, valve closed it slept really well. The telltale sign for me was that usually when I wake up from an air mattress I don't want to return to bed for extra sleep. With this mattress I did want to savor those extra zzzs. I really appreciate the lack of bounciness, also...just firm, comfortable support.Great. Ordered a second mattress for my tent mate and it had a leak. Not so great. Company sent a second mattress free and quickly. Great. Two weeks on the mattresses this summer was problem free, mate approved, and comfortable. These regulate temperature between you and the ground better than air, also. Some say that they're too hard to roll but there are tips available for this format of mattress. Follow those and you'll find them easy to handle.Looks like they're no longer available...too bad.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for sleep overs!

Ordered one of these because my daughter is having a slumber party for her birthday in 2 weeks and one of the girls was going to end up on the couch in the living room which didnt feel fair. I needed something compact but comfortable and something that would be more durable than an air mattress. I cannot tell you how many air mattresses I have thrown away in my life time. So if this makes it 2 years...its exceeded the life of any regular air mattress I've ever had. First let me say...if your box arrives DESTROYED like mine...dont panic. They have it inside of a second box and then in a sleeve so it should still be good to go. I set it up just to try it out and had my daughter lay on it for a size comparison. Shes a very tall 12 years old. Set up was a breeze. I REALLY like their take on the inflation/deflation valve. It flips one way or the other based on what you're trying to do. My daughter said its extremely comfortable and it deflates to take up as much space as a rolled comforter. I may be ordering a 2nd one of these just to keep on hand now that they are on sale!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Replacement good so far

New pad was a fit perfect in the back of my Xterra for an overnight car camping/fishing trip up to the Sierras. Self inflation is very cool. You can hear the air getting sucked in, and don't have to blow much with your mouth to get the pad perfectly firm. Reminded me of my old backpacking Thermarest, but much longer, wider, and big time thicker.I made sure the plastic inflation/deflation piece was in the correct position, then i capped it off. I put the valve end of the pad up by my head so i could do a quick deflation the next morning, hopped in to my 0 degree bag, and turned in. Immediately I could hear an air leak at the valve, but it was too cold out, i was tired from trout fishing all day, and i just went to sleep. I woke up a few hours later to a flat pad. I am 5.9 198#'s, so definitely not over weighting the pa. The foam gave a bit of comfort, and saved my back. When i got home the next day i inflated and deflated the Freeland Pad several times, read the manual, watched a few how to videos on Amazon, and adjusted the valve piece many times. It will not seal. It's either the screw-in plug that will not seal, or the plastic piece that's not inside the valve, or both. Since i really love the feel of this Freeland Pad (before the air deflates), I am returning the original.....and, a new one is coming in a few days. I will update my review. I hope for the best.10/11/19 - update - new pad arrived on Wednesday, and it's solid! Let it self inflate for 15 minutes, then blew a bit more air in (not much).....like 7 puffs. I did this in early a.m, put a little weight on it (sleeping back and couch pillows), and left it all day while I went to work. When I got home it was still solid. I then laid on it for about 30 minutes while I watched TV...still solid, but very plush. Zero air loss. This one is a keeper! I would say Freeland is very close to perfecting the valve/plug. I will still insert a some thin plastic into the valve to seal the plug threads, but that's likely not needed DISREGARD my comment above about using an air pump, Freeland instructions clearly tell you not to do this as it could damage the internals of the mat. It would be nice to use an electric pump to deflate, but I'm not going to mess with it. It's easy enough to deflate using the flip valve, and you body weight. We'll see how it holds up after a few camping trips.
