It is commonly believed that Okinawan farming and fishing tools evolved into lethal weapons of self- defense when the Satsuma samurai clan forbade the peasants from carrying arms. The generally accepted origin of the Nunti bo is that of a fisherman's gaffe. Using the straight point, the fisherman could stab wayward fish and carry it into his boat. Furthermore, he could use the inward prong to retrieve submerged fishing nets and the outward prong to push the boat away from the dock. This video teaches the self-defense techniques for the Nunti bo and shield. Secondary weapons, such as the sai and escrima stick, are also briefly discussed. It is an ideal teaching aid for review, rank testing, competition, and self-defense. Grandmaster Michael A.
