I was super hesitant buying these. I did a ton of research and didn't really feel the greatest about the purchase but bought them anyway. When I got them it was obvious that they were of substantial quality metal but I was still worried I just wasted money.The first use was a little underwhelming. They come with an instruction manual that warns you not to get them insanely crazy hot. Like 700+ degrees F hot. I had also seen a ton of people with crazy black grill marks on their food that almost looked like it was burned. So, in attempt to follow the manual and not burn my food I kept the temps wayyy too low. This was a mistake and as a result the food didn't look or taste any different than normal.The second cook I did a lot higher temp (Grill at 415F) and had better results from both look and taste but I still wasn't crazy impressed. It wasn't till the 4th or 5th cook that I realized how damn amazing these grates are!With other grills it was always a battle of a million things: -Trying to get a good sear....-Making sure the grill didn't have a grease fire....-Cooking to the correct temperature....-Not overly charring or burning the food before it was done....-Worrying about how long cooking would take as it would be variable due to hot spots....-Trying not to have some food cooked more than others....With these grates, I realized I could just throw the food on the grill and not worry! It just cooks like it should!-They sear amazing. The flat size is really great for this but the grill mark side does exactly as they say.-They vaporize the juices so quickly there's never a chance for a grease fire to start. <- THIS IS AMAZING and worth the price alone.-They spread the heat evenly so everything cooks consistently and at the same rate-They let through just enough fire to get a tiny char but not too much.My whole mindset of grilling has completely changed. I no longer worry about anything other than the temperature I want my food to get to. Just flip and check it in a little bit, repeat. All the other factors are no longer even a concern! It's completely removed the stresses of grilling for me and I find myself having a ton more fun cooking. Also, most importantly I find that all my food is tasting way better than it ever has and I've fooled myself into thinking that some of the stuff I've cooked was from a restaurant it was so professionally cooked and tasted so good.So far I've cooked:-Steak-Burgers-Brats-Hot Dogs-Beef KabobsAll turned out really well but Kabobs were insanely good and easier than it's ever been.In summary, I know what you're thinking. "Am I really going to spend THIS much on grill grates? Is it worth it". The answer is yes. While not obvious at first, these are an essential piece to a grill for me now and I'm pretty sure I'll never use anything else.

If you are looking for a gift (and who isn't) that is perfect for your guy, this is it!I'm not a great griller but with this grill grate my grilling is fantastic. Hugh improvement in both flavor, time to cook and grill marks.Just for the record, I am not being paid for this review and I paid full price for my GrillGrate.Here are my recommendations: - Clean the area below your grate and empty your grease trap prior to using this grate topper. - Get the three sections but only connect two of them. Use one for vegetables or whatever and the other for meat. By disconnecting them it is really easy to control the temperatures on both grates. Allow air gaps around the grates to avoid overheating the area below the grates. - Heat the top of the grate to a really hot temperature before adding the meat so grill marks are perfect. - The spatula thing is critical. Go ahead and spend the $99 for the package with 3 grates and the spatula. It helps with flipping the meat but, more importantly, helps with cleaning the grate after cooking is all done.Future follow on presents in case you need them (and we know you do): - Get an instant-read thermometer. GrillGrate sells them but I bought a Thermapen which is awesome. The Thermapen costs more and I'm pretty confident the GrillGrate unit will be adequate. Grilling without an instant-read thermometer is a lot like driving a car without a speedometer. - Get a digital infrared thermometer to see the temperature of the grate itself. Again, GrillGrate sells them but be sure to compare theirs to a Etekcity Lasergrip 630 Dual Laser Digital Infrared Thermometer Non-contact - Get the GrillGrate "Grill Perfect Steak!" magnetic. It provides exact details of how to cook steak rare, medium, ect. to a tee. Well worth the $5

I ordered this grate set to use on my Traeger Pellet Grill, as it doesn't get hot enough to properly sear meats after sous vide cooking. I didn't have very high expectations, but I figured it was worth a try. The first time I used it, I was amazed at how much hotter than the grill temperature that the grate got. It made nice grill marks on my pork chop, without overcooking it at all. I actually received three grates, although the product information said there were only two. I took one of them to our beach house, and use it on our gas grill there. These are definitely worth the money, even if you only get two as advertised.

Using these on a venerable Ducane gas grill. The 16.25" depth grates fit my Ducane perfectly and the (4) grate set I put into use does a great job at distributing cooking heat evenly across the grill, resolving an issue with this aging grill. And grilling? Oh my! I feel like joining the TV competition on Grill Masters! I am getting excellent if not perfect grilling results and the sear marks on my meats and fish are absolutely award winning!
