The beam is made of wood, and I cleaned the surface as recommended on package. I placed the hangars the recommended space apart and let them be for 24 hours. When hanging the rope lights, the hook would not latch properly on most. There were some that latched properly, but it took some effort with several tries to get it to latch. After a few minutes of the rope lights being up, the hangars began falling off the beam. Only a few of the hangars held the lights properly. I had to use a staple gun in the place of the ones that fell.
