I was so excited to buy these candy bars! Allow me to digress slightly; I was born in 1985, and my grandmother used to work at this ancient local drugstore (it had been around since the early 1900s if not longer, called La Mesa Drug). Every day when she would finish her exhausting 8hr shift (She was already pretty old by the time I came around), she would have them put a single candy bar on her tab at work. It was the BarNone. She would then walk the few miles to our house, flop down onto the couch, absolutely exhausted from her day. After a moment, she would look at me with the warmest of smiles and pass me the candy bar, and together we would sit and talk about the day while sharing this simple treat. This candy bar, as silly as it sounds, created a tangible memory that has embedded itself deep within my brain. The BarNone phased out of production in 1997, around the same time my grandmother's health had begun to decline. My grandmother has long since passed, and I never shared a lot with her in terms of outings and adventures. She worked every day until her health had declined and her Alzheimers had kicked in. One of my greatest memories was eating this candy bar with her, while she spoke of days long since gone and simpler times. This candy bar doesn't taste copy exact, but I wouldn't want it to. I've grown older, and I can tell this version isn't quite as sweet, and in my eyes, it brings it to my current liking. I love it, and every time I eat one, I remember those moments with my grandmother, and I have since shared the love of these candy bars with my nieces who never knew her, my wife, my coworkers, and I even brought my parents and siblings all backdown memory lane as well. Okay, so they stopped making these in 1992. I was a kid and loved them. I was sad they stopped making them. Come to last week when I found out they are back!! I looked at the reviews and some people say they don’t taste like they did back then. Well I can’t say I remember exactly how anything tasted 28 years ago. But what I can tell you is... I just opened the box and ate one. I am sooo happy I decided not to pay attention to some negative reviews. While I’m pretty sure it does taste like the original, it doesn’t even matter because I still love it. It’s chocolatey with some peanuts and a crisp chocolate wafer. What’s not to love? Now if someone could just bring back carnation breakfast bars. One can only hope. If you know you know. Update: I’ve had 3 other people try them and they love it to! I bought the box so I had to share.

I have ordered these before from the same company and they were fresh and delicious. This candy bar is from my childhood, and Hershey's Chocolate stopped making them decades ago. So, I was thrilled to see this new company was now making them. After my first pleasant purchase I figured I would be just as happy. Not true this time around. The box arrived all taped up and had some dust on the outside of the box. That should have been my red flags! I cannot even explain how horrible the candy tasted. It had no chocolate taste, no peanut taste. And had an underlying taste and after taste of an old dusty, mildewy basement. I am not being overdramatic either. Very disappointing!
