It has kept the gophers away for several seasons. My neighbors have all the gophers now, and they stop when they get in range of this. Make sure you take the battery out annually and clean the interior, and it will last many years. Also, you have to be certain to get it into firm ground so the thump penetrates distance. I bought on for my xxxxx, and he did not use it properly, and would soak the ground around it the next day, defeating how the system. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best for all applications. *by G***Y on Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2010* The fist thing to point out with this solar charging devise is that a good unshaded sun area with a southern exposure for a good charge of the batteries. If this isn't available don't buy it! My exposure is good and the unit is charging and operating just fine. Since installing the unit the Moles have come right to the edge of my property but are not coming any closer. I have found that these units, both the solar and battery alone units need to be spaced closer then any of the manufactures say. I think this is because of soil type more than anything. I just wish they would tell you what you can expect for different soil types and stop the practice of giving the best of what that they think it will work. I wanted to use the solar unit because getting batteries and replacing them every 3 or 4 monthes can get expensive as well remembering when to check to see if they need replacing. Yes the units works but I have two problems with it. The unit is ugly and you don't dare place it anyware that you have to mow! Actually this isn't the biggest of my problems with it, the buzzing noise(not as noticeable with the battery models) every 15 seconds This is not a natural sound in nature and when your're outside in your area of paradise you should only hear the natural world. ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Smart Solar Mole Chaser *by J***5 on Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2011* So I previously had a Smart Solar 0400RM1 Solar Mole and Gopher Chaser. It lasted about 2 years and did the job. What I found was that once you have moles/gophers, these things won't get rid of them. But they usually leave in teh winter, and if you ahve it in place in spring, it will prevent them from coming back.Anyway, I had the Smart Solar and it worked for a coupel years and finally gave up. So I ordered another one, but what came from Amazon was "Solar Powered Mole Repeller" from HLA. This thing looked similar, thought the stake was little longer and thinner, but it only lasted about 2 weeks before dying. I don't recommend it.
