It's geared towards educators, so its slightly tougher for parents to adequately use it as there are many references to what was discussed in class. We'd love a version where it provides the parent with the full lesson plan to better utilize the tools within for the child's benefit. We used this as a prep for 7th grade as our child happens to be in a school where the curriculum isn't up to standard in our opinions and based on testing and grade result from K-6. Each school year and/or summer we use a workbook to keep our child engaged and so they do not fall backwards. There are many exercises where answers can vary greatly, so as a parent/teacher you need to really read what your child is writing and discuss with them actively. This isn't a do the work and grade it - it's subjective.
