This is the sweetest air pump I've had in 40 years!!
I've had 12 volt air oumps ever since I started driving 40 years ago ... My first car would pop the bead if I took a corner too fast and I quickly discovered it was easier and faster to jack it up and pump it up rather than change the tire. Most have been cheap and easy to burn out but they were there when I needed them. When I became a homeowner and family man I graduated to a tank type electric air compressor, which had a tendency to leak from valves and were still so noisy that I wouldn't inflate anything outside until after 9AM for fear of disturbing the peace. When the most recent one gave out, I decided to go back to trying a simple pump. First and foremost, this thing is QUIET! It's a relative concept of course, but if you've used a 12 volt air pump before you probably know that they emit this high pitched clattering screech that if you heard coming from your car would send you scurrying to a mechanic. This baby, though, has a much lower pitch, much less noise, and I'd really categorize it as a hum, like a refrigerator compressor maybe. Added to this is the padded feet or stabilizers on the frame, so there's virtually no vibration. Most of my pumps seemed to be in danger of walking away from the vibration, this just sat there humming. Adding to the agonizing noise of my previous pumps was the excruciating slow inflation rate, which would prolong the torturous experience. I was intimidated to read about the "cycle duty"...can only run it 10-15 minutes then rest it for 45? That's not practical! I'd inflate one tire an hour with that! Not this bad boy. Inflating my tires tonight I guesstimated that it added 1 PSI every 5 seconds. I walked off to get my pressure gauge and was surprised to find it was done when I came back 30 seconds later. Wow! So I topped off my 6 woefully underinflated tires with less than 10 minutes accumulated time. And I could give it the rest of the night off to cool down. The pressure gauge seems to be pretty accurate, just give it 3-4 lbs above target and turn off the pump and the reading seems right in target. The chuck is the sturdiest I've seen yet, and had a good solid seal. I didn't try the bleeder valve yet, but did knock it open by accident twice. My one gripe is with the chuck lever open the overall length is over 2 inches, which made it difficult to attach to my rear motorcycle wheel because of the brake drum clearance. Minor issue, not enough to dilute my joy of owning this fine piece of equipment. The battery clamps are small, and the plastic covers extend down to surround and shroud the jaws. I used a marine battery for the job and popped them on the narrow terminals, but it seems like it would inhibit the jaws opening far enough to clamp on the standard posts. Given that I haven't seen anybody say this in the reviews you can probably safely assume I don't know what I'm talking about. Cords and hose are nice and long, I don't anticipate any problems reaching any tires on my Tundra. In summary, a fantastic piece of equipment, particularly for the price, that looks like it will last a good long time, and as an added bonus will be the answer to the annual question, "What would be a nice manly gift to get my male relatives?" God, where was this thing when I needed it 40 years ago?

Works pretty good for my car
I got this tire inflator because I didn't want to be dependent on my local gas station to fill my tires up. Last time I went there the air compressor was broken, so I finally bought this.This unit hooks directly up to your car's battery. My 2010 Honda Accord only puts out 10 amps through the DC outlet inside the car, so I decided to get this one rather than similar units that I have seen that hook up inside your car rather than the battery. I have read other reviews about some of these inflators blowing fuses in the cars, so I was aware of that issue ahead of time.After connecting the clamps to the battery and turning on my car, I filled up all my tires just to top them off. The compressor is relatively quiet (certainly not loud by my definition) and added about 2 psi to each tire in about 10 seconds for each tire. The unit was a little warm after all four tires, but certainly not anywhere near hot to hurt my hands from touching the metal heatsink. It probably gets hotter if you leave it on for longer, but for periodic tire inflation maintenance, it seems like it is rugged enough to handle it.The nozzle is a clampdown type which also has a release switch. You press the release switch once to lock it into the release position, and press it again to close it back up.Most of the parts are made of metal, not plastic. It does have rubber feet on the bottom to absorb the vibrations though. The length of the hose and DC power cord put together is just enough to reach all four tires on my car comfortably. The bag that comes with it fits all of the parts with some room to spare (I also keep my tire guage in there now).All things considered, I think this is a pretty good unit. The construction feels good, which is reassuring since I had another tire inflator a while back that did not last long. It does everything I expected.Update: It's now Oct. 2013 and I am still using this pump for my tires. It still works great, tops off the tires fast in seconds, and I appreciate the bag that comes with it which I also use to hold my tire gauge. One thing to note is that the cord plus hose is really just long enough for my 2010 Accord coupe, so if your vehicle is bigger, you may have to upgrade to the higher end models which I believe have longer reach.

Update over two years later:The good: Still works great.The bad: The hose split down at the bottom where it attaches to the pump. It's pretty cheap hose, really. I was in a hurry so I just chopped a couple inches off and stuck it back over the air outlet using a heavy hose clamp. Worked just fine.Original review:If I could give a 4.5, I would, but I will be generous and round up.The good:Direct to battery connection gives you much more power than you'll ever get from cigarette lighter adapters, which have varying fuse sizes and wiring grades from vehicle to vehicle.Small footprint for the power.Gauge works perfectly (other buyers have had trouble with this but the one on my unit matches perfectly with my other stand-alone gauges).Handy carrying bag (could be bigger but, one way another, it fits, so I can't complain; it never claimed it was an army duffel bag, after all).Easily accessible fuse.Fast and strong (more than enough for my 15" tires, but I like to be prepared)The bad:Power cord could be longer, or it could come with an extended hose, as reaching the opposite tire is no easy task.Clamps are on the small side; just barely fit on my terminals.You have to hold it down to keep it from dancing away unless you have a perfectly level surface, which could be solved with some fold-out feet to widen the base, but it's not too big a deal.Time will tell how long it lasts but the construction looks solid, unlike some cheaper units I've seen in general stores. From the other reviews, it seems that if it works out of the box, it will last.

Poderoso compresor para emergencias en el camino
En cuanto me llego lo probe, Tengo una camioneta Chevrolet Tahoe de 5.35mts de largo y el cable electrico + la manguera alcanza para llegar a las 4 llantas y la llanta de refaccion! conectandolo desde la bateria. Este compresor pudo llenar 20 psi (desde 20psi llegar a 40 psi) en llantas Rin 20" en aproximadamente 3 minutos. Excelente calidad, poco ruido, excelente funcionalidad.

Getting what you pay for -- what a novel idea
The first air compressor I ever bought for the car was a cheapie "250 psi" from Canadian Tire, on sale for ten bucks something like 20 years ago. It worked fine I suppose. Took it a long time to inflate a tire, about ten minutes if the tire was about halfway deflated. Far longer for a full flat. It was a pain to plug it into the lighter, as it was a very tight fit, and of course every time you wanted to check tire pressure you had to go in and unplug it first. The phlange to connect it to the tire's air nipple was also a pain to connect or remove, and it was made of soft metal so at some point it simply broke off. I had to use pliers to use it after that. Eventually the unit simply quit working, and also the long wire that goes from the unit to the lighter jack was very thin and frail, and it eventually frayed and broke.Enter the Viair 90p. I found it right here on Amazon, and after reading all reviews and comparing it to a host of other kinds of compressor units I decided to go ahead and order it, and boy am I glad I did so. It arrived a few days earlier than anticipated, even with standard free shipping. It was heavy, of a decent solid quality, and lo and behold it actually did what it was supposed to. I had all four tires on my old '97 Grand Prix perfectly inflated to 35 psi in less than 12 minutes, and two of the tires were down about halfway and 3/4's respectively, the other two only slightly deflated by maybe 5 or 6 psi. The outside temperature by the way was around minus 30 C while I was working with the P90 that first day. With my old unit I would have been absolutely miserable, and it would have taken close to an hour as opposed to the afformentioned 12 minutes.The phlange on this unit works like a dream. (part that connects to the tire) A 5 year old child could apply and remove it, and it's made of a very solid steel-like alloy so it's not likely to break or bend. No wrestling with the thing, and no troubles at the other end of things either. The connectors to the battery are also of a decent quality, although I wish the clamps would open wider as my battery posts are quite large due to there being a battery maintainer attached. But that was solved easily by cutting some slits into the protective sheaths on either side, and now the clamps open just wide enough.The long cord from the battery clamps to the unit is of a much thicker and heavier guage quality than my old cheapie unit. Again, it's built to last.On the unit itself is the on/off switch, so no more having to go into the car to unplug every time I want to check pressure. No more having to unhook the air hose either, as the on-board guage is right there. ONE THING though was I found the pressure guage to be reading about 10 psi higher than actual. No problem though, as I just keep that in mind at all times and I know that 45 psi = 35 psi. I have a couple of hande-held checkers that corroborate this. I can live with the guage reading high, it's the machine's quality and performance that I was most concerned with, and on those fronts this thing is marvelous.Other attributes -- the thing is quiet. Far far quieter than my old cheapo unit. It makes a low buzz, that's it.If one of your car tires is low by ten or fifteen psi the 90P will inflate it in roughly 30-90 seconds give or take.The carrying case & air attachments etc all makes this a very neat package.Price of around $80, well, it's a lot compared to my old unit but since the performance and quality is there I don't feel overcharged at all seeing as how I should get many many years out of the P90.You will too.

Tried it once and works great.What I like:-Nice and compact-Light, but substantial.-I can't comment on reliability, but it feels like this one will last a long, long time. If anything breaks, I'll update this review.-Accurate pressure gauge. Some reviews said the gauge is 10 psi off, which is definitely not my experience. Mine is more like +/- 3 psi when comparing to my digital and manual pressure gauge. I suspect people are reading the gauge while the compressor is on and pumping. If you want an accurate reading, you need to turn off the compressor first and then see where the gauge settles down on.-Connects to the battery rather than cigarette lighter to ensure you get lots of power without blowing a fuse-Surprisingly quiet for the amount of power this thing puts out.-Inflates very fast. You'll be up and running in no time-Metal chuck that connects directly to the tire looks and feels high quality. Made of solid metal-Chord is long enough and has more length to spare to reach the rear passenger tire of my Honda Civic 2012-Amazon says it isn't compatible with my car, but that is definitely an error.-Love the constant air release button that you could press if you want it to continuously release airWhat I don't like-The carrying case is very basic and cheap. Would of been nice if it came with one with pockets and didn't collapse when you carried it by the handle with the compressor inside. Nonetheless, I am at least glad it comes with one and gets the job done.

This works as described. I have used this over 5 times already and has proved itself powerful. I find that it can fill my 13inch tire almost as quickly (2 or 3 seconds slower) as my 90psi 250Gallon industrial compressor at my shop. For being such a tiny compressor that fits in the space of my tiny spare tire well, I find that I can easily bring this wherever I go because I can just grab the little bag it comes with and put into any of my 3 cars. I would recommend this to anyone due to its speed, reliability, and durability. I would buy this again just to keep in some of my cars for emergency use. My only gripe about this design on this compressor is that the alligator clips that connect to your battery are a bit small so you may have slight difficulty playing around with the clips to get it to stay on the battery.
