Making Love: Sexual Love the Divine Way Paperback – September 11, 2006

I received this book in audio form when I was 30 years old. My whole system went "yes" to what Barry said and I never looked back. I have lived my life according to this teaching for 25 years now and it has changed me totally as a woman (and I was blessed to have a partner who could hear it and apply it). I can speak from first hand experience of having put this teaching into application (together with the rest of Barry's teaching) and I give you my my word, if you live it, everything he says is TRUE. It takes discipline, one pointed commitment and no compromise from both partners. If you live it it will change you fundamentally to what you are as a man or woman behind the cultural sexual ignorance and persona. As a woman, you will discover a profundity within yourself your mind cannot imagine. I write this review from the heart and gratitude to have been blessed with having received this information, having the intuition to trust it, the fortitude to live it and been blessed with a partner who could live it too. This is a book of Truth, nothing less. If you can hear it and apply it, it will change you in a way you cannot imagine. If it was up to me, I would make sure every young woman and man approaching puberty would receive an edition of this book. It is the sexual education our society sorely lacks.

In this book, Barry Long spells out his vision of human sexuality, its failings, and the ways in which we can restore it to its original divinity. While influenced by tantra, this book is completely different than many other 'manuals' for sacred sexuality. Long is clear, concise, and at times quite blunt as he lays out both the obstacles to sexual union and the methods to overcome them. He is never overly technical, which I greatly appreciated in reading this book. The material is presented in a grounded and matter-of-fact way, but also with respect and a deep spiritual understanding.If you are looking for a book that focuses on 'techniques' (i.e. breathwork, positions, mantras, etc.) this is certainly not the book for you. Long in several places argues that the majority of tantric teachers espouse practices that do little more than excite the body--and his message is completely the opposite. It is not about exciting the body, but about bringing consciousness into it. It is about gently and gradually removing the emotionality and attachment out of the sexual act, so that the true consciousness behind the union can begin to emerge. While this is certainly no easy feat, in this book Barry Long delivers a clear and unique roadmap to opening the heart and bringing consciousness into sexuality.

This book is interesting and gave a inspiring perspective that matched some of my own experiences. Although the author is reeeally on a spiritual trip that led him to write a delusional introduction about angels and halos. I took it as a metaphor and got a lot out of his theories on how people should practice to focus on a real experience, lived in the present and awareness of the other. This book is important in a media and consumption saturated time where people are too distracted from the pleasures reality already can provide for them. It teaches empathy and especially young people who, nowadays, are consuming porn at a very young age should get in touch with these other perspectives.

Transform your world view, live in love, and experience divine love making. Profound and simple. Barry Long is a little known spiritual master. I strongly advise listening to the audio version of this book, narrated by Barry Long. There is is shakti in his voice. Available on YouTube, Audible, and others.

only time will tell

I don't think I've ever read something so raw. So undeniably true and to the point. I feel like more of a man of character and responsibility and compassion having just read this book.No book has jarred me thus since I was 18 and read Zen Mind, Beginners Mind. I'm a 30 something divorced guy who became utterly confused and even contemptuous towards the opposite sex. Talk about lying in the bed you've made!If you are a man or woman that can stand up to constructive criticism this book will make you laugh as you blush and fluster you as you recall your past foibles. But hark! The world is made anew through understanding :)

This book gave me integrity and new purpose in relating to women. I can't say enough-maybe the most life expanding book I've had the pleasure to read. First time I ever read a book straight through twice.I feel rejuvenated in my ability to give love deeply and unselfishly.Update: It has now been 13 plus years since I read this book and now I have to say that the experience permanently changed my life in one realization. That realization was that I had the opportunity to engage with my partner from being present in the moment instead of from the mind. That made all the difference in sexual intimacy.
