So close to perfect, but one glaring flaw.
I do love how sturdy this case is and the large lip on the front facing side allowing for you to set the phone down face first without ever worrying about the screen being scratched by anything. The front also shows the inner rubber casing, so that when it is face down, it will not slip around. The fact that the back is of a slippery plastic material makes it so that you can still get this large phone into your pocket without too much trouble. I do, however, wish that the back was more flat, as a few protruding plastic areas around the camera, flash, and speaker cut out make it tilt back and forth like a table with uneven legs, if you happen to be using it laying on a flat surface. This isn't a deal breaker. What is getting closer and closer to a deal breaker is the stupidly narrow cutouts for the headphone and charging ports. I have so many micro USB chargers and sync cables that I cannot use because the cutouts are too narrow. This is partially the fault of the cable makers but much more so the fault of the case. Considering the fact that my current clip is about 1 out of every 6 micro USB cables I try actually fit, I would assume more responsibility on the case manufacturer than that of the cable. For over $25, this is not a cheap case, and you'd think they would TEST a few sync cables before manufacturing these in mass quantity. While the headphone cutout is less annoying, I still have had at least 4 or 5 instances in the last few months where cables simply could not be fit in all the way, usually on higher quality headphones or on 1/8" to RCA cables to send to a stereo. While at first this was not a huge deal, I am having increasing trouble finding an aftermarket cable that actually fits and don't feel like shelling out the cash for a few more original Samsung sync cables when I can get one for $4 that does the same thing, but with a wider connector. Why do companies never take these things into consideration when so many inferior cases have had the same problems in the past? Why has no one else commented on this? It has been a constant nuisance for me.

Excellent case
I just updated my mobile phone from an iPhone to the Samsung Galaxy Note. I had an Otterbox defender for the iPhone and was quite pleased with the protection it provided. With the new Note, I wanted to try to limit the size of the case (as the phone is large enough already), so I decided to try the Otterbox Commuter. Couldn't be more pleased. This case is basically the reverse of my old Defender - the silicon casing on the Commuter is on the inside of the hard plastic (the old Defender had the hard plastic on the inside, covered by a silicon skin). I like the new design better (the hard plastic on the outside makes it slide easily into my pocket), but the initial fitting was difficult. It took a few tries to get the plastic case to fit onto the silicon without pulling/bunching it, especially around the data ports. I found that if I opened the flaps covering the earphone jack and the mini-USB port prior to fitting the hard plastic case on, it made it easer to get the phone and skin into the protective case. The Commuter doesn't add a tremendous amount of bulk to an already large phone, and the case actually makes it slightly easier for me to handle the phone. Without the case, the Note seemed a bit too thin to hold in my hand comfortably. With the Commuter case, it seems to have just the right heft. The silicon skin makes the power button on the side a bit vague feeling, but I think that I will get used to this with more use. The case does have a lip around the edge, but it doesn't seem to interfere with the touchscreen nearly as much as the iPhone Defender case did.All in all, I'm very happy with the purchase.**EDIT**Still happy with the case, but I did notice something that should be taken into account. I have found that third party power cables (Belkin, etc) may not fit with this case on as the rubber shielding on the cable is larger than the port in the Otterbox. Still a very minor issue - a few seconds with an knife to the shielding around the plug on the cable and it fits without a problem.

Works Fine
The case arrived in a small brown amazon box. When I took a look at the package I noticed that it was alittle beat up and looked like it had already been opened. It looked more like a refurbished case that was repackaged to sell as a new one. The case itself fits well on the AT&T variant of the SGN. Though it was kind of hard to put on and take off the case. I have compared the Otterbox Commuter Case with the Case Mate Tough Case and I prefer the Otterbox Commuter Case over the Case Mate Tough Case. The Case Mate Case doesn't feel like it provides very much protection where as the Commuter Case does. The Commuter Case feels more solid when paired with the SGN. The Case Mate tough case provided protection for the SGN but it felt more flimsy and the hard plastic was more prown to scratches. What I didn't like about the Case Mate Tough Case was that the hard plastic wrapped around only the left and right side of the device where the power and volume buttons were. This made it really hard when putting on and taking off the case because the power button would get pressed down and you had to get it on exactly right or the buttons would keep being pressed. I also felt that sooner or later the plastic buttons on the SGN would break off if I kept taking on and off the case. Where as the hard plastic on the Otterbox Commuter wrapped on the top, middle, and bottom of the device. Which left the power button and volume rockers exposed. The added rubber flaps for the headphone and microusb were also a nice addition.Overall I think that this is the best case out for the SGN1. Otterbox Commuter Series2. CaseMate Tough Case

Otterbox flips the finger to the flip case
I bought this because my Stilgut UltraSlim Flip Case was flipping annoying me by making the volume buttons awkward to use for anyone without the dainty fingers of a child. Unfortunately it turns out that you get into terrible trouble these days if you go on facebook or wander the neighbourhood seeking out children with dainty fingers, and apparently child labour is no longer even legal. Who knew? So anyway I listened to the suitable words of advice, accepted the caution, signed the register, changed my name, moved house, grew a beard, shaved my head, bought a big pair of dark glasses and then bought this otterbox case. I can now change the volume even with my sausage like fingers so all's well that ends well. One minor annoyance: the aperture for the micro USB port is very slim indeed. It is a good snug fit with a Samsung supplied cable or the one that came with my Nokia device, but the plastic surrounds at the end of most aftermarket cables are about a millimetre thicker and don't fit. This can be really inconvenient, especially when your partner/employer/colleague/total stranger sitting next to you on the train discovers you with knife in hand whittling their cable end down to fit. I listened to the suitable words of advice, accepted the caution, and agreed to be bound over to never board another Great Western Train. But now I have an extra usb cable so all's well that ends well. Stilgut UltraSlim Flip Case

Tough
It is perfect for someone who is tough on their phone. Dropping it will no longer mean the end of the phone!

Hard Case
Super case that adds a real feel of protection to my Note. The only possible drawback that i can see for people is the extra size that it adds. I was aware of this before I purchased the product so I will not rate it down a star. This product works perfectly with the Spigen SPG Glas.t screen protector. The case also does reduce the available area around the Micro-USB connector, so some cables with larger flange on the plug might not be able to slot into the gap in the case. The stock cable that ships with the Note works perfectly, however my extra-long third-party cable had to be modified with a knife before it would fit.
