Q: What type of wool is this? Merino? Shetland? Palwarth? other?

Seller doesn’t state breed. They do state in a couple of places that it is fine wool fiber and that it is wool tops. It isn’t synthetic. I buy wool roving all the time and it is cleaned and usually no scent or very little. Rare that it would have sticks or debris in it. This is much like the last batch I purchased here

The staple length from my measurement with the batch I received is roughly 2 1/2 inches.

Q: How long is the yarn?

It isn't yarn at all; you would need to spin it into yarn before you try to knit or weave with it. Do not try making a basket with it; you could possibly use it for an accent, but it is not going to be capable of holding any structure. How long the yarn will be once you've spun it will depend on how you spin it; bulkier yarn will obviously consume more roving per yard. If you spun sport weight yarn, you could get hundreds of yards out of this.

Q: Can this be used to make thrums?

I would think so, though I used it for felting. Seems like it would work for you. Great product.
