Works fast, butane fueled, no need for electricity
Love this dehorner for my Nigerian Dwarf goats. First, you can use it anywhere instead of being tied to electrical outlets, because it runs on butane. Go to any place that sells cigarettes and they will have butane canisters for sale, for refilling lighters. Note: I stop and refill after three kids just to make sure it doesn’t run out in the middle of one. The tip has a very narrow edge so it goes through very quickly instead of needing to leave on longer and leaving a wide burn ring like, for example, the Rhinehart. As my goat mentor taught, I heat the tool up and make sure it’s burning a good ring by testing on a piece of wood. Restrain the kid and clip hair away around the horn buds. Switch butane off. Burn first bud rocking tool around the circle for four seconds. Repeat for second bud. Go back to first bud and do it again if/where needed to go all the way through to white (bone). Pop that whole horn cap off. Repeat on second bud. If it’s a buck kid, you have to move tool down and inward and repeat to make a figure 8 to catch all the horn base. Cauterize any bleeding and spray with Blu-Kote. Switch butane back on to reheat for next kid.

nice easy to use FLAMELESS device
nice easy to use FLAMELESS device! Promptly put it to use the day after I bought it. it was about 19 degrees F, in the barn In the hour I used it I only refilled it one time. It heated up fast, stayed hot, and worked perfect, really excited about this tool esp. that there is no cord to fight with

Works better than expected
Ordered this for my wife to use on her Nubian goats. She has previously been using an electric dehorning iron that gave out after a few years. I thought this one may be better since it's not tied to a cord or a propane tank and she tells me it heats up very fast and works flawlessly.

Easy to set up and use, struggled to scoop
I've been using Portasol dehorners for many years throughout vet school and after graduating. I've used them on calves and goats. Got a new one and it functions nicely- gets very hot very fast and is easy to use, service, and clean. I recently had to do 2 jersey calves, aged 2 weeks and 4 weeks. The smaller/younger calf had bigger buds and bony bumps already, but each of them maxed out the larger sized additional tip I purchased (18.5 mm) and while it did great at cauterizing and going through the outer skin ring, it REALLY struggled doing the final scoop to pop out the bud as a hole. It took 3x as long as it should and required a lot more force and contact time (neither of which I appreciate because the harder you have to apply pressure and longer you're doing the job, the much higher the chance of you slipping and burning yourself or the patient). Hoping it gets better with use, but I don't know what that would make a difference.

and I couldn't be happier. This iron is easy to use
I recently made the jump from using an electric Rhinhart x50 to this butane disbudding iron, and I couldn't be happier. This iron is easy to use, lightweight, and burns hot and clean. So glad I made the switch!

Dang! Just awesome
So easy to use. So easy on the calves. No problems. They healed up quickly and hardly seemed to mind the procedure. They recommend using an injectible anesthetic, but we followed the advice of a local dairyman and just did it. In the time it would have taken to administer the anesthetic, the whole thing was done, and seemingly without pain. Great product!

Love it! I use it for disbudding my goats(Nigerian Dwarf). Once hot it makes short work of an unpleasant job. I did order the larger tip to do my standard goats, and buck kids. It is light weight and no cords to mess around with. I reccomend it!

Very easy to use, convenient, using on my goats
This was extremely easy to use, heat up, very comfortable in the hand, and great because there is no plugs, the only issue that I am having right now is I am using this for my goats and I find the head to be very large where the caps are not falling off properly it’s possibly something that I’m not doing correctly but it is cause me to have to redo a couple of my goats. I believe the head is too deep therefore it doesn’t penetrate the top part of the buds Good enough. Maybe I waited too long and they were protruding too much. Not sure if I can by a decent head. Also I wasn’t sure what the temperature should be as others have told me with the plug-ins it’s over 1000 I have used a thermometer with this and only got to maybe 500
