Best map for Backpackers
This is definitely the best map for backpacking. That being said, it is only as good as the information provided to the map makers. It rates the trail or trail section by difficulty which is extremely useful in trip planning. The water sources are listed on each trail. This is incredibly useful. The contour lines are easy to find and count. The important features are labeled. The map is very durable. It's water resistant and tear resistant. It's not idiot proof. When they build a better map, someone builds a better idiot.

I really like these maps
I really like these maps. This covers the majority of the Grand Canyon trail system and this is the map that the park ranger told me he prefers to see visitors have on hand. Very durable. Most importantly, very accurate. I used Sky Terrain maps last summer in the Aspen/Crested Butte area and was highly impressed. My experience with the GC map did nothing but reinforce that opinion. I think they set the standard in topographic maps. If you plan on doing any backpacking in the GC, this is the one to buy. The maps they give you at the park entrance only cover the amenities and roads at the rim and maps of the park shuttle. This has all the backcountry zones and sites, as well as the more established sites well marked. Great for trip planning too. One side covers the rim/slightly western side of the park while the other side covers the eastern aspects of the park. I purchased it for its full coverage of the Escalante and Tonto trail.

The best Grand Canyon topo map available
I authored a Grand Canyon Hiking DVD (Jon's DVD Hiking Guides - Grand Canyon National Park) and wanted to find a map to offer on my website. After looking at all the topo maps I could find on the Grand Canyon I chose this one. I was expecting National Geographics' Trails Illustrated map to be the best (typically their maps are superb) but their GC map is really lacking.Kent Schulte's map is attractive and easy to read, it lists mileage distances on the more common trails and contains other important information such as perennial water sources, contact information for obtaining a backcountry permit, etc.

Wonderful map
I bought this map for a rim to rim trip last year. I was using the corridor trail from North to South Rim so there is no need for a map at all but it was great to look at before the trip and get the whole thing into my head. I have to say I only used a it a little on the trip but it was definitely a useful and feel good thing to have before. The standard of the map is great; the paper, the colors and the detail.

Best map I have ever used
Last year we took our scout troop on a hike along 60 miles of the California Coastal trail using a United Stated Geological Survey map. The distances were inaccurate and the water sources were vague. This year our troop hiked across the Grand Canyon and we used this Sky Terrain map. What a blessing. This map provides accurate distances for each trail, rates each water source, rates each trail for difficulty and for scenery etc., has detailed information about how to obtain back country permits and how many people are allowed at each camp site. Also the scale is more than twice that of the National Geographic Grand Canyon map which I also own. I have never seen a map with more relevant information. Everyone on the trek praised this map. I would not hike the grand canyon without it.

Great Map
My fiance and I are planning a hiking trip to the bottom of the canyon and spending two nights camping down there. This map, while we haven't gotten the chance to actually use it yet, it really seems like it will be extremely usefull. The absolutely great thing about it is that it is water-proof so if it happens to get wet it will not tear and fall apart. The map is also very detailed and the trails are well marked. We do plan on using it for our day hike while in the bottom of the canyon. I would recommend this map!

Beautiful, unmatched - but North Rim beware
There's no map out there like this one. It's outstanding. My issue with it is formatting. It's divided front and back at an inconvenient place - between Shoshone and Grandview Points on Desert View Drive on the South Rim.The division of the North Rim is worse - Cape Royal and Bright Angel Point are on different sides, and Point Imperial doesn't even appear on the map. This shouldn't stop you from getting this map. The way it's colored makes it easier to understand all the geological features you see from the rims. That's mainly what I use it for.If you're going to the North Rim, you'll need the National Geographic Arizona Grand Canyon North and South Rims map, which had Point Imperial and the main North Rim points on the same side of the map.No problem, though. Can you really have enough Grand Canyon maps? :-)
