Don't Leave Home Without It
I used this guide to plan a trip to Grand Canyon with my grandson. All the South Rim trail evaluations were right on. I also made copies of those sections we would be using while hiking, which made for easy reference. The guide seems to be very accurate and up to date.Of particular interest was the section on Shoshone Point. While in the Village I asked a Park Ranger about this attaction and he said, "we really don't promote this location, but since you asked, it is one of my favorite viewing points at either sunrise or sunset." After hiking the approximate one mile from the parking area to the point we were not disappointed. We also witnessed a Native American wedding (with Shama, tom-tom and all) at the point, which was frosting on the cake. Great suggestion.Regardless what guide you use and I don't think you can wrong with the Lonely Planet publication, be prepared. Grand Canyon is a vast area and most of us only have a limited amount of time to make the most of our visits.

There are better books.
There are better book on the Grand Canyon. Illustration is lacking. We don't need as much details on hotel or other items that are easily accessed in the Internet. I recommend "Grand Canyon: The Complete Guide: Grand Canyon National Park" written by James Kaiser. That is a complete guide with pictures and great detail of information.

Good book - i usually like Lonely Planet anyway
Grand Canyon was good, not great. Lots of people and honestly I liked Zion better. As far as the book was concerned typical Lonely Planet read - easy to follow, a lot of information and idiot proof. Liked it and will continue to buy LP.

Nice book
I found this e-book on special. We are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon this year and this has been great to browse through to get some ideas of things we want to do and places we want to go while there.

Do not recommed this guide
We spent a few days at the Grand Canyon and this guide was of little use to us. Just an example: We decided to go to the skywalk on the western side of the canyon. As we realized later, the guide seemed to intentionally omit important info that would probably have deterred us from going to the skywalk. The guide did not warn that there would be about 10 miles of unpaved road (we had to breath in a lot of dust from cars in front of us) Further, once we got there, we had to leave our car and were charged $45.00 per person to be taken by bus (7 minute drive) to the location where the skywalk is. In addition, we had to pay $32.00 per person to stand on the skywalk. While we could not take pictures, the short stay on the walk was totally spoiled by the personnel taking pictures of visitors ($30.00 per picture). The experience was not worth the time and money it took--this commercial enterprise partly benefits the Hualapai reservation where the skywalk is located. This may explain the omission. However, a good guide is supposed to help travellers make the best use of time and money. If the omission was not intentional, it is possible that the authors never went to the skywalk, so had little to say about it. I do not recommend this guide.

Lonely Planet Grand Canyon, Love It!
Lonely Planet Grand Canyon is very well organized and was the best tool I used for assisting me in planning our vacation. It is compact and will easily fit in my backpack, as a great resource while on our trip.

LP books are the best
I don't travel without my Lonely Planet books. They are a wealth of information and I have found some great places as a result.

Good travel guide!
Good travel guide! But very less pictures for reference. Sometime it is useless without any picture, I cannot make any trip planning based solely on text.
