These are for a 3/8" dovetail which many rifles have machined into the receiver of the gun. I'll try to explain a little below... I recently got back in to shooting after nearly 30 years. The scope on my 1970's rifle was inadequate for what I wanted, so I purchased a BSA Sweet 22 Scope from desertcart (Super Value - check them out), and needed to mount it - which meant new scope rings. I didn't understand all the options, and was confused by terms like Tactical, Tip-Off and Weaver etc. The difference is easy once you understand them, and in a nutshell, they come in two sizes for the Rail or dovetail, the smaller being about 3/8 of an inch where the scope ring (male Jaws) slides onto the rail or grove just like a dovetail in wood working ( this is a sketch of the female groves on the rifle __\||||/__ ),and the JAWS of the scope ring slip into the groves and a screw tightens down to grip the rifles female groves. The other style is designed to fit over a rail which is usually a separate flat piece almost 3/4 of an inch wide with 1/8" slots cut every 1/2" or so down its length looking end on, it might look something like this . The jaws of the scope ring's base are wider and much more stout than the one I described above. The latter scope rings will not slide onto a rail because they have a bolt that runs through the base which fits down into those slots I mentioned. So in order to install them, you must loosen the nut as much as possible without removing it, and then fit the fixed jaw onto the rail, and tip the ring down so the bolt in the base fits into the slot, and then the moving jaw can be re-tightened to keep the scope ring secure. Seems complicated, but once you fiddle with it a bit, you will see how simple it really is. I'm not an expert, but if you go on the internet and inquire, it will have plenty of pictures and info about the different types. As for the Quality - They are made from High Grade materials, and will stand the test of time. The fit of the scope in the ring is outstanding, and they provide all the Allen wrench tools you will need in the package. Something else to know is about the height of the rings. Generally Scope Rings come in Low - Medium - High, with the idea being that you want the shortest rings you can get by with so you achieve the following things: 1) The Objective Lens (on the business end)should not touch your rifle. 2) The scope is Tall or Short enough to see comfortably through the lens with your cheek resting on the barrel, otherwise you may suffer from what is called Scope Shadow. 3) If you are using the tallest rings, it will probably push your scope to its maximum adjustment and need to compensate by raising the rear ring (closest to your eye). If so, you may have to Shim the Scope by placing a thin piece of material under the rail. an old piece of 35mm film makes good shims, with the maximum being two thicknesses. Again look for more info on Shimming a Scope on the internet. Review: Very nice rings -- worked perfectly with my Henry H001 carbine - These scope rings work great on the narrow mounting rail often found on some .22 rifles and some airguns. The popular Henry H001 has such a rail, and I wanted to mount my Nikon scope on it. Many good scopes such as my Nikon have somewhat large objective lenses, which means that the rings need to be somewhat high-profile to elevate the scope sufficiently that the objective lens assembly is not touching the rifle. These rings did the job for me. The fit and finish of these rings is very satisfactory; they look terrific on my beautiful Henry carbine. My set of rings came with one each extra screw for both the rail mount hardware and the ring hardware (which were different screws). It also comes with all of the Allen wrenches that you need to mount the rings. The hardware is very easy to finger tighten and it is very easy to install your scope using these rings. The end result is a very sharp looking rig. I would buy these rings again and probably will, for my son's Henry rifle.
