## Description

desertcart Best Seller! Second Edition Updated for 2026. Stop Guessing. Start Creating . Are you tired of relying on your camera’s "Auto" mode, only to be disappointed by the results? Do you have an expensive DSLR or mirrorless camera that feels more like a source of frustration than a tool for creativity? Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Exposure: A Practical Guide to Perfect Exposure for DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras has helped countless photographers take control of their gear and transform their images. Now fully updated for the mirrorless era, this Second Edition strips away the intimidating jargon and explains the core principles of photography in plain, easy-to-understand English. Written by best-selling author Al Judge , this guide approaches photography from the highly logical perspective of a former mechanical engineer. By breaking down the physical mechanics of the camera, Al demystifies the "Exposure Triangle" so you can visualize exactly how light works—making the concepts finally click into place. Inside, you will discover how to: Take Complete Control: Master the Exposure Triangle—Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO—to perfectly capture any scene. Manipulate Depth of Field: Create stunning portraits with beautifully blurred backgrounds (bokeh) and tack-sharp landscape images. Capture Time: Use Shutter Speed to freeze fast-moving action or create silky, flowing waterfalls and night-time light trails. Read the Data: Understand your camera's Histogram to guarantee perfect exposure every time and completely eliminate "highlight clipping". Embrace the Mirrorless Revolution: Learn how Electronic Viewfinders (EVFs), live histograms, and electronic shutters give you a real-time advantage over traditional DSLRs. Whether you are shooting on a cutting-edge mirrorless system or a classic DSLR, the physics of light remain exactly the same. Stop settling for "good enough" snapshots and the "spray & pray" approach of hoping one image turns out right. Take your camera off "Auto," unlock its true potential, and start creating images that capture exactly what you saw and felt. Grab your copy today!

Review: Very Helpful Book!! - Al Judge, author or photography master? I say both, I have read a couple of his other books and they are all the best of the best. This book, Mastering Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO and Exposure has taught me more than the college-level photography course I took over a year ago. This book should be the textbook for those courses. I was still unclear about many aspects of photography until I found this book. Of course, I took better pictures but I wanted to know what made them better. We can always better ourselves but if we don't know why or how, then we have limits. Al Judge takes away those limits and explains to the reader, very clearly, what kind of effect a certain technique or just a slight change would make to the final product. My pictures always seemed a bit "noisy", but by making better sense of ISO speed, Al has taught me how to correct that problem in such a way that I could actually explain it to someone else. I think that is the best way to judge a book, not just by how you interpret the information, but how you can relay that information to someone else. You can go through and read all of the reviews you want, or you can just buy the book and start taking better pictures right away.
Review: Excellent book, but a bit short - A lot of valuable info in here for a newbie like me, but not enough examples. The shortness of the book makes me feel as though it is a collection of magazine articles, rather than a complete book. I would love to see more and will probably follow the author for that purpose. Easy to read, well written.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Helpful and succinct

I have always enjoyed taking pictures, but have never known what the settings meant. I have purchased other books, but never made it all the way through them. After recently purchasing a new camera, I decided to get serious and I thought a good place to start would be this book. The book is geared towards beginners, I think, which is great. It has good photographic examples and charts to explain concepts. He explains the basics and a little beyond, but not so much as to overwhelm. I also like that it is a manageable read. Just when I felt anxious to be done and go take pictures, it was done! I would definitely use this as a stepping stone to more in depth classes.
