Melissa & Doug Wooden Railway Set, 130 Pieces

It’s a great train set! We also bought the Melissa and dough play table for it to go on and it fits perfectly. I would recommend getting blu tack or some other putty to stabilize it because it does slide around quite a bit, but for the most part it’s great for the price.

Our 4 year old plays with this set nearly everyday. His cars work well on the tracks too, which is his favorite way to play with it. We love that it’s wood and great quality. And there are so many ways to set it up that it keeps the kids busy for a while.

The overall quality is excellent. There are a lot of pieces and the kids love that some of the trains and cars have magnetic and removable pieces that can be picked up by the cranes. The wood has a decent weight to it, but not too heavy for the little ones to pick up. Most of the tracks fit together nicely, however, some of the pieces have plastic connectors and some of these connectors were pushed too far into the wood and make either for a tight fit or make it so the tracks don't stay flush or stuck together. Have wanted to pull them out farther, but am unsure if they are screwed or glued in and don't want to break anything. It's not a deal breaker, but just something to be aware of; the majority of the pieces fit just fine. Another minor issue are the blocks used to raise the tracks off the ground. They could have a slightly better way of securing them, as the tracks can fall off them fairly easily. Older kids might not have the trouble, but younger kids might not be able to. We bought this on sale and would suggest because of some of the issues to wait for a sale and not buy at the full price.

If you own or have a friend who has a 3d printer, and print some elevated rail support pieces this set is fantastic for the price. If you don't, the supports that come in the box for the elevated rails are terrible.

I just got this train set. Prior to purchasing I read the dimensions in the description and q&a section to ensure it will fit on my son's play table. Both the description and the q&a section mention dimensions of 28"x17"x6" and the q&a says it is about this assembled. These are the dimensions of the box. It is way bigger assembled. Look at the product picture of the boy standing behind it assembled. Given this, I haven't assembled it yet as I need a new table first. I did open the box and inspect it and it does appear to be quality parts and complete. I'll update rating and dimensions once I get it built, but wanted to warn others not to go off the q&a or description for assembly planning purposes.
