Instead, it should cause them to lean in because they got a hint of your scent and need to get closer to enjoy it on you. But no...you dumped half the bottle on and now can't understand why YOU don't smell it. That's not how perfume works. It's not for you, it's for others close (as in...CLOSE) to enjoy.
