Not sure why but happy to keep the device as it worked well other than this. Tap is water right, cleans well. I used it on tools, found, watches, spectacle, sunglasses, keys, cutlery etc (for some reason it struggled with coffee stains). It's definitely noisy and something you not want to sit next to (smaller devices are much quieter and tolerable) Do recommend taking care of delicate items/hanging them from a bar and clear if the basket as the basket will mark them if they touch. Revised review, having contacted the seller we have been supplied with a replacement machine FOC. Very good and speedy customer service.
