Easy to use, fits in small spaces, great for beginners
Super easy to use but I wish the cord was longer. I heard that there are better demagnetizers out there and some purists really frown upon this one but I wouldn’t believe the hype. Here’s the deal: magnetization in cassette decks happens but it’s such a small amount that it’s imperceptible except in the most severe cases. This unit may be small and weaker than others but it still has the strength to demagnetize a cassette head and the metal parts in the tape path. In fact it’s actually good that this demagnetized is a bit weaker than other brands because it helps ensure better accuracy when using it and you’re less likely to accidentally erase a tape or a hard drive or something by accident. The small size is perfect for getting into tight spaces like the inside of a Walkman. I’ve got two very compact Walkman models that I’m able to get into and demagnetize with this unit (the wm-2 and ex633). The first time using it is pretty scary because of all the warnings and the instructions but once you use this once you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Just be sure you keep anything that could be affected by the magnetic field about an arms length or two away from the demagnetizer when plugging it in and when unplugging it. Move slowly toward what you plan to demagnetize and slowly move from part to part in a straight line. For example, I’ll line up all the cassette players and decks I want to demagnetize all in a row with the cassette doors open. Then I place the demagnetizer in the center of the room as far from the devices I’m going to demagnetize as possible and plug it in. Then I move slowly (by slow I mean deliberately slower than you’d approach something normally but not abnormally slow like in slow motion, more like 70% of a nice leisurely pace) toward the decks I’m demagnetizing. From there I go from left to right in the cassette compartment. Run the head of the demagnetizer over the erase head, record, and play heads in a back and forth, sometimes circular, motion, then moving to the capstan and any other metal parts of the tape path. I keep the end of the demagnetizer over each part for about 3 seconds or so and touch the tip of it (always with the rubber cover on) to each part for a moment. You’ll feel a vibration when you touch it to metal. Then I keep going, left to right, to each device I’m demagnetizing in a row and repeat the process. I use this on every used cassette player I get after confirming they work. It’s part of the maintenance process. I’ll likely not use this for quite a long time but it’ll be there when I need it. It’s a good little device, it works, and it’s perfect for those just getting into cassette deck and portable player maintenance or repair.

Great for old analog tape decks
I bought this to demagnatize the heads on my Sansui reel to reel tape deck. I've also used this on Cassette and 8 track decks, albeit not as easily as the reel to reel due to the limited reach of this demagnatizer. On some decks, you'll need to take the lid off in order to get close access to the heads which is needed to do the job correctly. This demagnetizer works great, but if you're new to this, do some research on how to properly demagnatize a deck before you start, otherwise, you might accidentally magnatize your deck permanently. Slow and steady is the key to success. Make sure you slowly move this far away from your heads/transport before you unplug the demagnetizer!

Excellent Tool for Restoring Audio and Video Quality
I recently purchased the Universal HEAD DEMAGNETIZER for my cassette tape deck and VHS player, and it has exceeded my expectations. This tool is essential for anyone looking to maintain and restore the audio and video quality of their older media devices. Using the demagnetizer is straightforward, and it comes with clear instructions that made the process simple and hassle-free. After just a few uses, I noticed a significant improvement in the playback quality of my tapes. The audio is now clearer, and the video quality has also seen a noticeable enhancement. One of the standout features of this demagnetizer is its versatility. It works perfectly with a variety of devices, including cassette tape decks, reel-to-reel recorders, 8-track players, and VHS systems. This makes it a valuable tool for anyone with a collection of vintage audio and video equipment. The build quality is robust, and the device feels durable, ensuring it will last for many uses. Overall, the Universal HEAD DEMAGNETIZER is an excellent investment for preserving and enhancing the performance of your cherished media devices. Works like a charm.
Have a stack of old vcr tapes. None worked on my vcr, which is in beautiful condition. Bought liquid tape head cleaners, dry tape head cleaners, and tried them all, but I couldn't get a picture, only noise and static. Bought this demagnetizer as a last resort, and demagnetized every part that the tape winds against. You guessed it, my vcr is like brand new again. I highly recommend this product to anyone who has a vcr, or audio cassette deck, and you are getting a lot of noise, and static. WARNING: 1. Make sure your vcr is unplugged from the power supply. 2. You have to remove the cover of the vcr in order to do an effective job.

Demagnetized my old cassette player
This demagnetizer was exactly what I was looking for to revive my old cassette player. I cleaned the cassette player with rubbing alcohol and cotton Q tips, let the parts dry, then passed the demagnetizer wand over the tape player parts as shown in some YouTube videos. My tape player has been revived with good sound quality. I don't have to throw the machine away (& my collection of music tapes).

New quiet version of the existing product.
This item is a new quieter version of the tried-and-true technology which is nicer to use than older versions that were noisier.

There is the continuous debate online whether these things actually help playback and/or recording. This thing is cheap. Thought I would give it a try on my old reel to reels. Made a huge difference before and after demagnetizing the heads. Bass sounds about the same, but the highs are so much clearer. Definitely recommend giving this product a shot if your tapes sound muffled. JUST MAKE SURE YOU USE THIS VERY VERY FAR FROM YOUR TAPE COLLECTION. I tested how close I could get to tapes before hearing any degradation. Less than 2 meters from the tapes and this device starts wiping your tapes lol. Be careful out there!
