CLEP® College Algebra Book + Online (CLEP Test Preparation)

I just passed the CLEP with a 73 My background in math is limited. I got up to “precalculus” and trigonometry in high school 14 years ago and tested out of algebra going into college. I was a music major so I took no more math in my collegiate career. Within the past 9 months, I have completed both over 90% of algebra 1 and 2 on khan academy. I can’t recommend that site enough if you feel you are shaky on some algebraic concepts. Like other reviewers, I took the diagnostic test and both practice tests. I got a 30% on the diagnostic, 76% on test 1 and a 53% on test 2. I found the wording in the problems of the practice tests to be a bit confusing. It was like they were trying to trip you. Upon review, I appreciated the increased difficulty because it forced to cement some more abstract concepts. Additionally I reviewed all of the practice problems in the book. I also took the college board practice exam and go a 63% and scored a a 73%, and two 93% on all of the Peterson’s online practice tests. I used study.com, but found the practice test riddled with errors and got a 70% I say all of this so prospective buyers can triangulate where they might need to focus there attention. After each test, I made flash cards for every question I got wrong and then put the answer explanation on the back. I continuously reviewed all of these questions until I was sure I understood all the concepts. I found the diagnostic and practice exams in this book to be more difficult than the actual CLEP itself. While my memory is fresh, I found that the CLEP was more consistent with what I saw on the Peterson’s practice test. Most of the CLEP questions I saw were very straight forward. There were maybe 2-3 questions that required some abstract reasoning. With that being said, I appreciated the thoroughness of this book. I found it to be the most comprehensive of all the study materials because of the detailed answer explanations. This is a good buy to supplement your study for the test.

This Clep book was perfect for me. I was ready to skip all my math classes in college and go straight for the credit and it helped me do that! This was exactly what I needed to help me pass, and I am by no means a math whiz.

I got a 63% on one practice test and a 50% on the next. I ended up with a 68 on the actual CLEP test, so the practice tests are harder. The book alone was not nearly enough for me, I relied mostly on Khan Academy online, which is excellent and free. The practice tests in the book are invaluable, as are the essential formulas and other test taking advice.

I am using as a guide to teach a high school prep course for preparation for the CLEP College Algebra test. I find it comprehensive and easy to use. Also, includes codes for online practice test (I have not used yet).

Recommend 3/5 It is way advanced than the actual test. You don’t need that much depth for the Clep algebra. Don’t depend on this only because the layout does not match the real test at all. This is for preparing you. I did understand rules better from this book and practiced log problems and reading the x, y axis. Don’t even try the practice test, it will bring you to another direction. The real Clep has more logical problems and much easier than this. This is more for nerds

I didnt look at it thoroughly but it seems like its a good book to get prepared for the exam. I like that theres a sample test which shows me what areas my strengths and weaknesses are

Exactly what I wanted for practice problems. Excellent resource to teach student how problems may look different from book to book. Getting use to how the test is structured and looks will release some anxiety before exam.
