I must say, this set has exceeded our expectations, providing an excellent balance of quality and affordability. A good basic chess set. The internal display and organization of the chess pieces is handsome and the magnetic bases are easy to work with. If there is a lacking, the pieces are not clipped in or magnetically held in the inside of the folded board, making them easy to fall out and scatter. But for the price, it is a good set and playable.

I only realized this after I bought it. The biggest pieces, queens and kings cannot hold onto the board if the board is tilted more than 45°. This is expected because the magnets are behind the wooden base of the board and the cloth like material on the pieces. I think this is expected, and the best that magnets can do. The thing I did not like much and I think that is a common theme across all kinds of magnetic chessboard is that the pieces are not securely fitted on the inside of the box. They are OK when closed but sometimes although rarely, you might need to just keep the board open with the pieces inside for decoration purpose but that won’t be possible with the board facing up. Also because the inside is black, if there is no good lighting sometimes by mistake where you are sitting, it is very hard to keep the pieces in their place, because since the pieces cannot be kept freely, it’s hard to keep them aligned in the respective places. Besides these nuances generally this board is good for a non-picky average customer if that is you. The wood material is sturdy. it’s well polished everywhere. The pieces are good. The lock is secure the magnets are good for most of the pieces except king and queen because they are tall and heavy and this board is good to be used in a car or train, etc. but not naughty kids around.

I think the size of the board and pieces are perfect. The quality of materials used are good. Easy to transport since you can fold it in half and lock it and foam keeps the pieces from sliding around. I like how the magnets aren’t super strong where it’s hard to move but just enough it keep them in place. I would say this is a good set to start out with. It’s my first chess set and I’m glad I purchased this one.

Our grandson loves it and wants to play chess with his grandpa whenever he can. That makes it well worth the purchase

Received the set within the date given and in good condition. I am please with it. I hope the magnet stays in ,as one piece , the magnet dropped out. ( I glue it back ) Nonetheless, other than the small defect, I am quite satisfied with the quality.

as great as advertised, the magnets are really good and the only downside is that there are no notations (you could add them on your .own if you really need them I bought it for 40$ tax inclusive and I am satisfied. also amazon delivered 5 days early because their delivery system is great as usual in my country.
