I had been hoping for a Blu-ray release of Tex Avery cartoons for a long time. This was worth the wait. The cartoons themselves are great. When Tex moved from Warner Bros to MGM in 1941, he brought speed and fluidity to animation that hadn't been seen before. it's like all the stops were pulled out and no holds were barred. The humor works so well, even today almost 80 years later. I think the key is that Tex didn't have kids in mind when making these shorts. He even stated so in an interview near the end of his life. not to say that these cartoons are Adults Only. Kids can enjoy too. But much was aimed at the grownups. The 19 cartoons in this collection cover a variety of characters from one-shot characters to frequently appearing characters like Screwball Squirrel and Droopy. There are only 4 Droopy cartoons, but there will hopefully be more releases. The restoration on these cartoons is top notch. There isn't a fleck or scratch to be seen. Beautiful color and sound. This is a bare bones release with no special features, but that's ok. There is also the typical Warner brothers disclaimer about how these cartoons are a "product of their time" and may be irreverent or offensive to some, but if you just keep that in mind and enjoy what you see, you'll be fine.
