Senior Dog and Cat use the Pet Loo and Owner-Approved!
Awesome quality product - Pet Loo! I received zero compensation for this review. Just a happy customer trying to help other dog parents and give a nod to the manufacturer, PetSafe. Notes if helpful: The pics show 2 of the trays side by side (we purchased 2 to start as our dog is a large breed and we wanted her to feel comfortable and safe to not fall off, and to replicate “going for a walk” outside). We used the spray then also our senior dog’s own urine and real grass (sod) too to help her finally use this potty after may attempts following the directions. It was a task as she’s so well trained to NOT go potty anywhere but the grass and is such a good, sweet gal. Our next step will be to gradually remove the sod so she hopefully goes potty on the turf underneath without needing the sod (turf is included with the product). The urine trap door really works to quickly collect liquid with no leaks and is easy to clean. We will need to order more of the powder “Wee Sponge” that also comes with the product, in the box. One of our cats chooses to use this as well rather than his litter box! Whatever makes him happy is good with us as long as he doesn’t go potty on the floor. Meow. :)

It works...YES...
We had a real problem with our 65 pound 1-year-old redbone coonhound going in the same place in the house. Both #1 & #2. Yuck! I went on to the old trusty Amazon and began looking at what is available reading many of the reviews... There are several choices in as many price ranges out there. It seems like each has its believers and naysayers. So what to do? So don't laugh too hard but I thought hmmm if I were a dog what would I want? This product offered it all. With a 65 pound dog, I wanted a solid surface that would not shift under him causing him to jump off and never go on it again, grass just like outside, large size so he could comfortably stand on it and easy cleanup. That's what I wanted and that's what I received. It's very pricey BUT... the alternative is not acceptable right? My theory is to buy the best and if it does not do as described send it back without any hesitation or guilt. When I received it, it was just as ordered. Very easy to setup. Not trying to be gross but this is what I did. I sat the box right next to where he goes in the house. He went there again, right next to the box. I grabbed some paper towels, held him there with me, soaked up the urine and put the paper towels on the grass of the new box, right in the center of the box. I then grabbed him by the collar and drug him onto the box. I then removed the paper towels. I kid you not, he then sniffed the spot where the towels were and urinated on that very spot. The true test was what would happen next time, would he go to the box? He did. In the beginning, he would only urinate there but now does #1 & #2. I praise him and give him a biscuit each and every time he goes there. Have there been accidents? Yes, but far and few between. I could not be happier with this product. Not a negative but the clips do not work. They were off almost immediately and he would carry them around. It doesn't matter for my guy as he doesn't get up there and scratch around or do that turning in circles thing, he jumps up, goes and is off. This product works and is worth every penny. Don't hesitate.

Bad design - Huge waste of Money
We live downtown on the eighth floor with slow elevators that break down a lot so potty training a puppy was too hard without finding an indoor solution. We started with PupHead grass which was working ok for us the first 10 months of potty training until our bulldog outgrew it and stared relieving himself on the sides of the grass, spilling onto the floor. We purchased this product hoping that it would be easier to clean & use by our bulldog. In theory the Pet Loo being raised was the solution since he'd have to hop on. However once he jumped off for the first time the grass went flying & freaked him out to the point he would only use the grass if we placed him on & took him off. We ended up using screws to keep the grass from moving but he'd still be shaking in fear every time we put him on it. We left it out for him for about a month to see if he'd warm up to it himself, meanwhile taking him on his daily walks 3x a day. He never did warm up to it but he did end up holding his bowels while we where at work. Cons: Poor design - grass has rubber backing which takes days to dry fully & still slips under the weight of heavy dogs Horrible smell - I rinsed every time I'd place him on it with water & clean in twice a week in the tub and it still smelled worse than the Puphead grass Eye sore - other potty grass on the market don't look as cheap as this one Pros: SInce our dog was petrified of the thing it actually ended up potty training him. We now just take him out 3-4 times a day & he's doing fine not having a place to go in the loft anymore. If I had to do it all over again I'd buy the larger version of the pup grass we had before which was a bit more expensive. We ended up tossing the Pet Loo this weekend.... I guess you get what you pay for.

I was spending a fortune on Potty grass deliveries $60 p/w - for pupper for my balcony. I wished I had bought this earlier. To swap over - I put the real grass on top of this unit for a week until my pupper was used to going potty on it and gave her rewards each time and made a fuss over how clever she was. She uses this all the time now and it is great. I bought World's Best Cat Litter 12.7kg Multi Cat Lavender Scented (4.6 out of 5 stars) and fill the catcher with 3 cups of this weekly - there is no smell at all. (ITS FANTASTIC - BUY IT!) I wash the grass each week with natural dish soap in the bath and pour water over the unit to rinse it down once a week. Highly recommend this to any pupper owner :)

I love this product BUT, I do NOT use the wee sponge powder at all and don't recommend it for the following reasons: 1. endless costs. 2. The used pod and gel have to be black binned. I'm not keen on creating more waste. 3. It may gel days worth of pee and lock in the odour, but it does NOTHING to keep the pee smell from building up in the turf, which will reek like pure evil in a week or two. Here is my system: 1. Get a big bottle of EZ Clean enzyme liquid. This is WAY better than Nature's Miracle or Scout as it's unscented (the others make your house smell like a clean dog kennel), it's safe (you can even spray down your lawn or pet with it if you have a skunking incident) and it's super concentrated, so 1 gallon can make up to 50 gallons of liquid. 2. Get one of those screw on bottle toppers for a plastic beverage bottle that turns the bottle into a sprinkler for plants [mine is a Bottle Cap Sprinkler, 2 In1 Mini Watering Can that looks like a little flower]. 3. Put an inch or two of EZ clean in a 1L water bottle (I use a big smart water bottle and it's perfect), and add the cap. Keep handy near the Pet Loo. 4. Put the empty plastic pee tray liner in without the gel 5. Once or twice a day, give your green topper a good sprinkling with the liquid. I use a cup or more. Wait 5 mins for it to drain through, then dump the pee tray, give it a quick swish with water, then replace it. Do not rinse off the ez clean. The enzymes need time to work. The enzyme will build up in your turf and be reactivated when the dog pees on it. It barely builds up any smell at all and the pee tray just gets dumped in your toilet. Seriously, I'm having to keep this thing in my bathroom right now (we're renovating) and there is zero smell. Trust me about the EZ Clean. Before I started this method my mats built up a ferocious stench. I was alternating between them and soaking the dirty one in pure nature's miracle overnight. I was using 1-2 gallons of natures miracle and month and hated the cheap perfume smell of the house, plus it only reduced the smell, but did not remove it. The cost of the Nature's Miracle and pee gelling powder was getting prohibitive and I needed to replace the top mat often. Yes, I tried buying astroturf from the hardware store. It did NOT work well. It's not porous enough and the pee rolled off, plus it was wasteful as I had to replace it a lot. Now I can hose off my mat really well every few weeks and it's fine. The enzymes really prevent pee buildup. FYI: to train your dog to use it, start by giving him a treat just for getting up on it. If it is on a slippery floor, put a bit of that nonslip material beneath it because if it slides it will make your dog hate it or fear it. Once the dog is getting up on it, you can start putting him there when it's pee time. I say "piddle" when he goes, and now he will piddle on command. He gets a liver snap when he pees on it. He's quite happy with it -- he sometimes tries to muster up some pee to get liver, heh. My dog is a toy fox terrier and he cannot go out on really cold days. This thing is a life saver.
