Sony CFDS50 Portable CD, Cassette & AM/FM Radio Boombox-(Renewed)

Wanted to get a radio for the kitchen that also included the ability to play CD's because my wife likes to listen to books while she works. This portable is built like a tank and all of the features work as expected. Had it for a while now without any disappointments. Buy with confidence even though it is refurbished.

Got rid of my complicated 25 year old system of stereo components and huge speakers. I rarely listened to it and it took up too much room in my house. Just needed something simple, small, with good sound. Well, this was it. The sound quality is great for this little, lightweight, affordable player. It's very versatile with its ability to play CDs, cassettes and AM/FM radio.

Little boombox with a huge sound! It has more functions than I thought it would. Pretty easy to figure out, although I haven't tried shuffle and MP3 mode yet. It has a bass boost button, but doesn't really need it as the bass sound is pretty good. Still can't believe all that sound is coming out of such a tiny player!

I had to return it because when I plugged it in, nothing happened. No lights. I tried everything, and I'm an engineer who designs electronics so I fully understand about bent connections and the like--none of that was happening. I bought it for the CD player. Additionally, two of the buttons for the cassette player wouldn't even depress; it's as if some metal were directly underneath, they simply wouldn't budge even a tiny bit. They didn't offer to send me another. The return went OK. I checked the box for a home pickup and rewrapped it in the packing materials and kept it by the door until they arrived. Because I can work at home this was plausible; the pickup was to be Thursday but they arrived Monday. Select drop-off, not home pickup if it might mean losing pay while waiting.

Bought this refurbished unit to replace an older cd-play/receiver we keep in the bathroom to listen to music when showering, ... This Sony is very nice. Main thing I like is that it has a digital tuner and memory for the stations. Our old unit had a dial tuner, which would drift over time. I have not used the CD player yet, and may never do. Definitely will not be using the tape player. The refurbished unit was such a good deal even if only using the receiver.

Functions OK. The sound is rather harsh.

Works well playing radio, CD's & cassette tapes. Most important has good sound quality.
